The idea that the WHO is somehow inside the pocket of the Chinese authorities pocket is just another bizarre fabrication floating around online, spawned from nothing more than the fact, that the WHO praised China's handling of the crisis, in direct opposition to rising anti-Chinese sentiment (especially for the Chinese government), often subliminal in the mainstream media, but highly vocal/toxic on social media.
People, especially those driving the narrative, don't want to hear that, as praise, and not blame, shifts attention away from the 'foreign enemy' and onto their own handling of the crisis. Which is what people in the UK and especially the US should be worried about now...
What's really worrying is these are the very tactics of totalitarian regimes, not supposedly freedom loving democracies, and it is aspiring dictatorships who love to generate as much chaos, economic instability (for the anger), and vengeful xenophobia as possible.
The WHO praised China, because a harmonious cooperation between both parties is to the benefit of the mission/mankind but also because the extremely aggressive measures the Chinese authorities put in place, worked. Had China refused to even test people, while publically declaring it to be a harmless case of the sniffles, I don't think the WHO would have been quite so gushing.
People call the WHO every name under the sun, when actually unlike all of us, these are the people who are actually doing something to stop this virus spreading.
