"Loss of sense of smell and taste is the most common indicator that you have had coronavirus, according to researchers.

Scientists at King's College London have been tracking symptoms of Covid-19 via their specially-created app.

By March 31, the Covid Symptom Tracker App had more than 1.8 million users sign up to log their symptoms, or lack thereof, daily.

Some 59% of the 1.5 million people who had signed up by March 29 and tested positive reported a loss of smell and taste, compared with 18% of those who tested negative, analysis of the data showed."

Game, set, match sir.

And

Last week the WHO's Dr Maria Van Kerkhove said there had been "quite a few" reports about people in the early stages of disease maybe losing sense of smell or taste.

But she added: "this is something that we need to look in to, to really capture to see whether this is one of the signs of Covid-19".

Lead researcher Professor Tim Spector from King's College, said: "When combined with other symptoms, people with loss of smell and taste appear to be three times more likely to have contracted Covid-19 according to our data.

I don't really give a toss about games and sets to be honest. If you want to feel like your winning an argument on the internet, go right ahead.

It's not helpful to say that the main symptom of this is a loss of smell and taste. How many people die because of that?

Is it a clue/indicator? Sure it may well be. Is it the main symptom? Hell no

He's right aswell, the path this government was going to take us down shouldn't be forgot, the amount of people they were happy to die to save the economy is disgusting

I hope the original strategy isn't lost by the end of this

The path we were going down was dictated by the CMO and the CSA. The plans were approved by the government and enacted by the Civil Service. Additional scientific advice caused a change in the agreed approach. The new approach was approved by government and is being enacted by the Civil Service and the rest of the state....and that’s it....I’m sorry it doesn’t fit your political agenda, but there we are.....

Who do you think told the media about the fundraiser to begin with?

As the funeral is paid for by the state, they need no money for it. So the fundraiser is under false pretences.

It was set up by the person who has spoken to the media about it. It's his quotes they are using. Why would anyone speak to the media about it so quickly?

You say I'm bang out of order but given the current circumstances , you think it's ok to ask for money for nothing basically? When they aren't the only people going through loss?

Funeral is free as per government policy mat.e

I think you are bang out of order for saying the family are profiting from the death of their own child. You have no idea what involvement if any the family directly have had. You're casting aspersions about the motives of people who've just suffered a terrible bereavement and I think it's really wrong.

If the family get given the money to make their lives easier then good for them, I can't really wrap my head around why you feel so aggrieved about it.

This is all a bit grim.

I think you need to shut up, mate.

Why am I agreived?

You are missing the point entirely.

This isn't about them having a go fund me page after their son died. It's about the story about their son being the go fund me page. That's it, all the story in the media is essentially here is our go fund me page , give us money.

That's why this is disrespectful to thousands of families being affected by this. This particular family has put the go fund me page as the story about their son.

Oh and fun fact. The media couldn't run the story without mum or dads permission to begin with. So whether they set the page up or not is irrelevant , they said it was ok to print and publish it on every website in the UK

You not WFH mate? Thankfully I haven't had to hop on the tube since mid-March as i'm able to do it all on my own doorstep.

This virus could change the way work is done moving forwards. Companies will see they can save dollar by not having fixed offices with work still getting done.
Both my missus and daughter have turned our dining room into an office. They're using our leccy, heating and wifi subscription for work purposes.

Both of their bosses are going to get a hefty bill from me, including rent. I'm sure there'll be a way their companies can claw the costs back from government if they sob enough.

Amazing hill to die on here

I know you can't answer this on the forum but do you have the PPE to cope. I'm hearing that equipment is being re-used and medical staff are sending their families away to reduce exposure. It's a worrying time anyway thanks for what you're doing. It's imperative that you get everything you need.

At the moment there hasn't been an issue in provision of PPE in all honesty, but i have heard anecdotal stuff elsewhere, how true or not it is i'm not sure, but generally i dont think there hasn't been to much of an issue this side of the water. We are being asked to be mindful of the use of resources but we arent reusing anything, gowns, masks, goggles and gloves are all single use. The biggest issue we had was before lock down and visiting restrictions and the general public, coming in and filling personal sanitizer bottles from the stations around the site, or masks and gloves going missing.

I've heard instances of some companies offering to pay for work stations (e.g. tables, chairs, monitors etc) but not sure on the policy of claiming back electric / heating. Have a mate who's company upgraded everyone's WiFi for them which is pretty decent.

My workload is drying up though at the moment, wouldn't be surprised if I was stuck on furlough by the end of this month.

Thanks for the reply. Can't thank you enough for the work you're doing. Stay safe mate.
