Corners,set pieces & crosses...

The delivery is getting better but until we have a natural slightly old school CF to get on the end of them they will continue to be opportunities squandered. That said it is definitely possible that Mina might be a bit of a Derek Mountfield if we get them right.
Slightly off topic I am still hoping for a few more free kicks central on the edge of the area to see if Lucas Digne really can fill Leighton's boots!!!

Personally I think we should play a striker, then these the attacking side will take care of itself
EE play with a false nine , inverted wingers , something called a trequilsta , all of which negate the need to play a striker

I haven’t got got a scooby what any of that means but I’m reliably informed it’s true
Back on topic , we are poor on set pieces corners and crosses and with Keane , Mina and SIggy in the side we need to improve

Not much to prepare for regarding corners as the vast vast majority of "set-play" corners don't actually result in any goals. Most goals from corners (and there are few overall) result from chance, inadvertent flick-ons, poor clearances, etc. So frankly when it comes to corners there is not much we can do to improve, except to improve our luck.

If you look at the starting 11 we are not really blessed with tall players; Richarlison is 5,10, Walcott 5,9 and Bernard 5,5, then Sigurdsson 6,1, Gana 5,9, Andre Gomes 6,2 Most premier league Defenders are over 6ft tall, so unless we get a corner or a free kick and can bring Mina up from the back we are not blessed with height in the final third. Even then Sigurdsson will probably be taking the free kick so there are probably only Mina, Keane and Gomes over 6ft.

Having said all that Tim Cahill was 5,11 and scored plenty with his head, so it can be argued that it is as much about the delivery and the timing of the jump.

Our games seems to be based more around quick counter attack rather than crosssing and set pieces, when we do cross it is more whipped in fast and low, looking for someone to just get a touch and direct it goal wards.

I think we have been poor at corners for a long time

Just seen on SSN we have scored 6 headed goals this season
Joint second with the horse punchers 1st with 8

We need to be more of a threat from dead ball scenarios than we currently are...

Corners we rarely score from them & don't seem to have any plan, set pieces are the same ...

Crosses were put in yesterday but there was nobody on the end of them most times, the best cross was put in by Gomes late in the game & was low & hard, a tactic we should use more as there is not much height between Bernard,Richarlison & Walcott...

Lots of goals come from set pieces so come on Marco let's see an improvement there...

It's almost like these aren't practiced, or is that my Martinez era PTSD talking?

There was a stat on the Burnley Newcastle game last night that so far this season we're in top 3 for the number of headed goals scored although that also includes open play.

Set pieces are such an important part of the game I'd like to see a few more training ground moves like the one deployed against Southampton in the league for Walcotts goal, not all about headers and scoring directly but sometimes just being a bit clever and trying something different.
