Converting chances / pressure

Is it just me or are we world beaters at being on top of teams but not scoring? We've absolutely bossed the first quarter of the game against Chelsea today and you feel any other team would have been 2 up.

Any ideas why?

Quality of players?
We have pressure but not real chances?
Bad luck?
Something in the head?!

I don't think it's that bad. Cech made a world class save from Osman, and we've hit the woodwork three times this match. It wasn't that long ago that we'd go to Chelsea and look completely toothless.

It is keeping a clean sheet I do not want to see JH in a blue shirt ever again another out of position mare!

absolute ridiculous knee jerking statement.

1. it was chelsea not southampton
2. we hit the woodwork 3 times
3. cech made a great save
4. we have a lot of injuries

i'm more worried about the fact we can put a shift in like that agianst chelsea, arsenal, city etc but we are gash against qpr, reading or norwich etc

it was only last season we did that.

not converting all our chances is something we have to live with atm. our striker only cost £5m and the midfielders creating the chances cost less. Chelsea had a striker who cost 10 times jelavic and still didn't take any/all his chances. we can't afford to buy £20m striker who will score with virtually every chance and sadly that is the only difference between us and those at the very top

Its not a new thing, we've never ever been clinical under Moyes.

Only time we came close was about 2007/2008 when we were banging in a few.

Our players aren't clinical enough and we never go all out to try and score loads.

Not for the first time today Lady Luck wasn't on our side. Apart from the jelavic chance late on that he should have buried, I don't know what else we could have done today. Hit post and crossbar and 2 world class saves from cech, that would have both gone in if turnbull had been in goal. Remember no felliani, miralles and Gibson. No doubt in my mind we would have got something out the game if they had played.

Just bad luck Mate. We hit the woodwork on a number of occasions in another match would've won us the game. Also I think it's worth noting we were far from a full strength side and still we more than competed with them; the post-match stats prove this.

Think of the positives.

Sorry if I wasn't being clear. It's not just today is it? There's been numerous teams we should have put out of sight after the first 30 minutes. Newcastle immediately springs to mind.

We play world class football at times, create what seems to be a dozen opportunities but only score one.

As said in the match thread I am actually taking this defeat better than any I can remember. I know we played well and were unlucky. And Chelsea are bang in form. I just wanted to make a more general point that we seem to be doing this more than anyone this season.

We made good chances. Were unlucky.

The problem was the gapeing whole in the centre of the park everytime Mata and Ramires wanted to run into it.

We backed off and backed off. Nobody in the centre closing the space (Hitz & Osman) central midfield oblivious.

Thats where we where vunerable today and lets be honest the quality of Mata is unreal!

3 massive players out though. Gibson, Felli, Mirallas.

They played a weak Everton today!

I'd agree with this. Whatever about playing a Chelsea team littered with top class talent, it's the lack of finishing against Fulham, Norwich, Reading, Newcastle etc. that's more disappointing. It's almost unbearable to think where we'd be right now if those inches and split-second decisions had went in our favour.

What's equally frustrating is it seems no one can figure out what exactly it is that's holding us back from finishing these chances.

The main reason could be that the top clubs don't come to goodison looking to draw. They come for a win which allows us more space
