Reidy's Bottle Of Grecian

The Unobstructed View
taken from the o.s.

Tim Howard became a record breaker on Saturday.

The goalkeeper was making 100th appearance for Everton against West Ham – and he's conceded less goals than any other custodian to reach that landmark.

Howard's record is even better than that of the legendary Neville Southall, the American having conceded less than a goal a game in his Blues career so far.

Games Goals Conceded
Tim Howard 100 99
Neville Southall 100 102
George Wood 100 108
Gordon West 100 113

well in tim lad, i doubt if many (self included) follow stats that close that they even realised that this 'record' was in the offing. maybe as some sort of symbolic gesture we can give him....

a bin for beating big nev
a handbag for beating gordon west
and some of blacktoffee's viagra for wood

sorry though tim, Big Nev is still our greatest keeper.
*hears [Poor language removed], [Poor language removed], piss-flaps shouted from finch farm

He is nowhere near as good as Big Nev.

I would say his record is helped a lot by a good defence but that would suggest Nev didn't have one of them in front of him.

Great achievment though. Were there more goals scored in general in games back in Nevs day?

I think he's a very good keeper, always have done. His record speaks for itself. He has his deficiencies but who doesn't? I doubt we'd find a better keeper who'd actually join us.

I have seen very few goalkeepers around the world who would be a match for Big Nev in his prime. I do rate Tim Howard, but he doen't even come close to matching Southall.

I've never understood the crap that Howard takes sometimes from Everton fans. He is a great keeper. I am thrilled that he got this record. Don't undersestimate his effect on building Everton's as a global brand. I started following the blues because of Howard (and since fell in love with them).

We have a world class keeper, dedicated to the team, performing at a record level of form, even helping bring on fans from footy's best emerging market... we should count ourselves lucky for having a stopper like Tim.

Here's to the next 100... think you can do it only letting in 90?

I also think he's a very good goalkeeper. He for sure is in the top 5 of Premiership goalkeepers for me.

Also agree with this
Eventhough he had a nervous start to the season when he seemed afraid to come off his line, he has turned it around and now seems to have more influence in the whole area
This for me is why our defence has gained in confidence. Every good side needs a confident keeper

i think that may be an americanism there, word of advice.........never use the 'f' word we save that for the melts across the park.(y)

Well in Timmy lad, good keeper when on form but is a confidence player as we've found out the start of this season when he looked like a donkey. Still don't think Moyes sees him as our number 1 for years to come as we are constantly linked with big money keepers but as Bill would say I'll watch this space
