Computer games.

It's been pretty savaged in an IGN review, and they are usually a sucker for money and massive games like this
If there was ever a reviewer worth discounting, it would be IGN.
The game does split critics, but I think it's the type of thing I'd really like base on the spoiler free review I posted earlier. Not going to pay full price though.

The Death Stranding reviews are hilarious.
It feels like all of them want to say it’s over baked pretentious nonsense, but they don’t want to come across as uncouth and uncultured.

It’s like listening to film students pretending to ‘get’ Citizen Kane lol

It’s got a character called Die-Hardman in it ffs lol

I just can't believe it was IGN who called them out on it.

He’s too pretentious for me (Kojima), his cut scenes are far too long winded and nonsensical with a big dollop of cringe on top. The gameplay isn’t nothing to rave about either.

One website on Metacritic, 100/100 , I knew who it was before checking. A hugely obnoxious guy from a movie forum I used to go to, spent his days trolling Xbox players, said about Gears of War and got called out “it’s just another dude bro first person shooter in space like Halo” and crap like that. Basically a fanboy being paid to “review games”.

Nothing against fans of Kojima in general, can see why he’s liked I just think he’s a tad over revered.

I saw one review literally say "the combat is clunky but I think it's artistically meant to be that way."

Hilarious Kojima fanboyism - mental gymnastics.

I agree with @orly that the IGN review seems bizarrely great for once. The game simply doesn't look fun. At all. Indeed, it looks like it doesn't want you to have fun.

It seems on the surface that MGSV wasn't average because of Konami after all. If this is as average as it appears to be, it's now been a very long time since Kojima made a decent game.

I'll reserve full judgement until I play it of course as reviews have been infamously well off before, but I'm not impressed by what I'm seeing.

To be fair it’s not that wild a concept, as far as I can see it’s basically a survival game and a lot of these types of games traditionally have clunky movement/combat by design... not saying that’s the case with this but it not beyond the realms of possibility.

The thing is, the combat arbitrarily improves later on when you get guns. If he's not an expert with weaponry and they were doing it for the purpose realism, then they should have an aim penalty on guns etc.

Also he doesn't aesthetically throw punches/kicks awkwardly, it's the actual mechanics that are reported as clunky - so again, not narratively consistent.

Again though I'm always reluctant to talk definitively about a game I haven't played and isn't even out yet. I may be very wrong.
