Computer games.

The thing is, all along the message has been about the new console being for the VR. Why have they now changed it?

Also points out 2 points

1. Makes the new version even more of a rip off as the XBOX version blows it out the water spec wise in a console. So again asks what is the point in it?

2. the PS Vr is able to run on the current models which struggle at times to render the full 60fps, the VR experience is not worth your money then. It will be poor in comparison to the PC, despite Sony leading everyone on to believe the reason for the new console is meant to bridge the gap between the pc and the consoles for the VR.

I am very tempted to sell my PS4 and swap over for an xbox, if nothing else i am doing it for the new version next year if there is a difference or at very least for the older version which will be dirt cheap by then

They've never once said the new console was for VR

that they have done.

It has been common knowledge that it was the case, i mat have been wrong about the current one being ok, but i know for a fact they announced the Neo (as it was called) being for the VR.

PlayStation VR (Morpheus) was announced in 2014 and has been available to preorder since early june. PS Pro (Neo) was announced about 2/3 months ago. At the announcement for VR in 2014 it was stated that it'd run on the PS4. The first reports of Neo came in 2015. The major upgrade for the Pro is that it outputs HDR colour and has a 4K upscale output.

They'd have been mental to announce the VR allow people to preorder it then say "oh sorry, we didn't mention 2 years ago that you need a brand new console to play it on"

they may not have officially announced the new console but it was common knowlesge to anyone for 2 years.

Nintendo have not announced any new consoles but won't stop a new one coming out next year. The NX or whatever the official name is. For a long time the new console was meant to be for the VR, everything i have read on the subject since they were first mentioned alway referred to the VR headsets and the new console. I'm not going mad lol i have read a fair bit, so any change to the policy would have only come about this year sometime, perhaps they have downgraded the VR (but not the price?) to allow this to sell more headsets.

In comparison Vr was never mentioned in terms of the xbox, that has only just been rumoured recently, they were meant to be keeping pace with Sony, hence why that one is a year behind.

but yeah, for a LONG time the new PS4 was meant to be for the headset. I read it far too many times over the past couple of years to think i imagined it

VR is good for any game with a fixed position, so basically racing/flying sims are what its works best with and these are the genres that most people buy VR for.

Typically people who are into these types of games already have 3 monitor setups and thus VR is actually viewed as a cheaper option.

VR is amazing for immersion but utterly horrendous for image quality, games look like they were made 10+ years ago due to the very low resolution and the screens literally being a cm in-front of your eyes. On top of this the technology is still very raw. VR is the future but it won't be mainstream for a very long time, talking decades here.

For me i have no interest, i will take my three 1440p Gsync monitors over VR all day, every day... image quality is important to me and VR looks like absolute [Poor language removed] in its current state.

they insinuated that it was, no official announcement for so long was them probably downgrading the whole thing for release.

Just the same as nintendo have not said a thing about the NX but most people know what it will be even down to controller type

They didn't insinuate it. I never once thought new tech was needed. In fact when Sony VR was first announced i'm pretty sure they said it would work on any PS4.

Even the games thing i have read for years has said that pretty much the whole way.

tbh i get most of my info from that place so proper gaming journos have been wrong on it so far as well!
