Computer games.

thats what i thought, be interesting to see what sale figures will be...if people on here arent interested and casual gamers wont buy it..then who will??!
rich people who can waste 700 quid.

you also need a new PS4 to use it as well.

Pretty much mate, if there is any game worth your time in VR then it will be on pc

Hopefully be trying it out this Friday when a workmate gets it. I'm expecting it to be really good, and totally different to anything I've played before....but I guess the question is, will it be that different and unique that I'll suddenly start planning to buy. I'm a casual enough gamer nowadays and only have PS3 so it would have to be pretty amazing for me to think of buying at those prices.

Gran Turismo on VR looks excellent.

The Batman one looks ok.

That's about all that takes my fancy so it's a huge no from me right now.

All it will be good for is driving games and stealth games. Perhaps rail shooters as well.

Free roam FPS games won't make the grade until motion controls are massively improved.

The cost is ridiculous and it looks destined to be a niche market to me, and that means no development because devs aim to make games for as inclusive a potential market as possible.

I know it's hardly a big surprise that I'm pessimistic about something related to gaming, but this whole thing to me seems like one giant ill-advised roll of the dice from people prematurely writing off more traditional gaming.

I think what is most surprising here is that I agree with you in every single point you make!

No mate, you don't need the new PS4 to use it
yes you do mate.

That is the whole point of the new version of the PS4, to be able to be powerful enough to run the VR. Same as the new Xbox next year, purposely designed to play the VR headsets, otherwise they wouldn't be making them.

PCs have to be quite powerful to be able to support it also, and an average PC blows a console out the water spec wise as it stands.

No you don't.

PlayStation VR is the latest member of the PS4 family – so whichever PS4 console you own, you’re PS VR ready; connect the headset to your PS4, add a PlayStation Camera* and leave reality behind.

that means two things

a) they basically lied until recently about that.

b) what is the point in bringing out a new 350 pound console ? Just after releasing the slim version when you don't need to get one?

The thing is, all along the message has been about the new console being for the VR. Why have they now changed it?

Also points out 2 points

1. Makes the new version even more of a rip off as the XBOX version blows it out the water spec wise in a console. So again asks what is the point in it?

2. the PS Vr is able to run on the current models which struggle at times to render the full 60fps, the VR experience is not worth your money then. It will be poor in comparison to the PC, despite Sony leading everyone on to believe the reason for the new console is meant to bridge the gap between the pc and the consoles for the VR.

I am very tempted to sell my PS4 and swap over for an xbox, if nothing else i am doing it for the new version next year if there is a difference or at very least for the older version which will be dirt cheap by then
