Computer games.

Honestly the better/best start off point would be just playing through the first two games. GOG.com usually have them on for about/less than 2 quid each and it's always a steal with what you (potentially) get, even though I know it's obviously not a PlayStation - they're really old games so would likely run on any toaster

If strictly PS-limited - I think Tommy has you there.

Alternatively if you don't want to do PC things (as the games are notorious for needing mods to work properly; usually included on GOG) - you can pretty much watch essays about the games and then play the PS one from 2014. LordMandalore has pretty good reviews about them, story and all, and the protagonist is the same in all of them anyway.

I'd forgotten I have the series S sitting there. I don't have the sub anymore but can see the one @Tommy Chong recommended is available cheap enough!

Thanks lads. Just finished Death Stranding and enjoying RDR1 but maybe I'll let myself get distracted by Thief for a bit too. I played the original on the first Xbox I think for a short while and always meant to go back to it

Couple of games in the play list recently.

TR-49
It's a short puzzle/investigation game where you have to search through this old computer system to find a lost book.
Navigating through the different files on the computer requires a 4 digit (2 letter + 2 number) code and you have to work out these codes through clues found on other files.

If you are looking for a game that is more laid back and will test your brain a bit, then give this a look. I picked it up for a fiver on Steam.

Also been playing the early access of 'Incursion: Red River'
It's an extraction shooter in the style of Escape From Tarkov, but entirely single player (and co-op)
My brother plays a lot of Tarkov and it's always appealed to me, but I'm too old and slow to keep up with the PVP side of it
So this is a much more chilled out solo experience with plenty of controls over the difficulty.

For those who've never played one, an extraction shooter is basically an FPS shooter game where the objective is to go on 'raids' on maps where you will complete tasks/missions and collect various loot & weapons. You have to successfully extract from the area at certain escape zones in order to keep every thing. If you die, you lose all the gear you have collected and any missions you may have completed, so that adds a big risk/reward element.

It's still somewhat threadbare as it is an early access work in progress, but the devs are updating and improving it at regular intervals.

Crimson Desert could be great. From what I’ve seen, it looks like it’ll be less story-driven and more focused on exploration, which is pretty much what you’d expect from a game that was originally built as an MMO RPG.

This is the most impressive technical leap with regard to photo realism that i've seen, lots of discussion about how ethical it is in terms of changing the artist's original vision, but all it's really doing is trying to add photo realistic lighting. Maybe not so great for more stylised games but for games which aim for photo realism, this is going to be huge. Luckily using it is entirely optional so people should be perfectly reasonable about it existing... but nope the cries of AI slop are everywhere.

For me every single example is a huge improvement in visual fidelity, especially Starfield

Edit: lol

We can't be far off full photo realism, which is gonna cause some interesting moral issues ...
