Clapping Opposition Goalkeeper

It used to be customary at most grounds up until the 80's I'd say, before we became a nation of self centered bells who have no respect for anyone but themselves. Personally, I blame Thatcher and Tebbit. In fact, it was not uncommon to applaud a good piece of skill by an opposing player.
Looks to the past with misty eyes.

I remember when Ipswich had a great team circa 1980 The came to Goodison and ripped us a new one.

They were winning 3-1, I think, when Paul Mariner crowned a great Ipswich attack by slotting a fourth.

There was the customary stunned silence for a split second after the opposition score but then the whole ground erupted in a spontaneous round of applause for the goal.

Re the goalkeepers.

Both EFC and the RS have been doing that since I started going the game in the late 60s.

I must say I never associated it with fans in any other region of the country but maybe I just neve4 noticed.

Rubbish. Opposition keepers should be booed and made to feel uncomfortable. We clap them more than we clap our own ffs and half of the time they don't even clap back.
Probably why we are going wrong all the time. Opposition keepers should get booed end of.

But this is the same fan base who applauded a Naismith goal against us which knocked us out of the cup.

Don’t the Street end clap the opposition keeper every game as he’s jogging down from half time? (or at the start if they’ve turned us round)

The keeper generally shows some sort of acknowledgement/appreciation and if they don’t they get boo’d.

I remember a few opposition goals being appreciated around the same era, Hoddle and Regis spring to mind. You'd think we'd scored when 'magic' slotted at the street end for Chelsea, but that was different.

Remember recently people clapping naismiths goal for Norwich in the league cup, none of them thought they would win and then they put us out haha

Oh.....and when Naisy scored for Norwich last season lol

I've never known a game where we haven't clapped the opposition keeper in.... Not read/heard any reports that they've claimed it as their own thing, but I'm not at all surprised.

We shouldn't clap the opposition goalie, we should boo him and shout at him.. we need players to feel uncomfortable at Goodison not settled

Not a chance they would have clapped him if they were losing, when they beat teams they are everyone's favourite opposing fans. When they are losing, they are the worst bells going.

Remember they went to the Chelsea hotel early hours in the morning, making as much noise as possible to try and keep them up before the game that Gerrard slipped in? Not surprised at all the media got a semi on over that last night, standard kopite behaviour.
And then kicked off outside blaming Chelsea for singing hilsborough songs. Funny that the only people who seemed to hear these songs were the ones dressed like extras from
Green street.
