If I manage to get into Manc land at a reasonable time I'll either be in the Lass O'Gowrie ( which is where I drank as a student ) or Mr T's Chop House. The Lass is my preference.

Both places will be full of WOOLS !

If it was still open, I'd recommend Tommy Ducks as a fine place to leave a pair of knickers.

Lass O Gowrie seemed to be a bit of a gathering point for blues whenever we were on TV but it's got a bit slack about showing any matches recently. Don't know if that means no one heads there any more.

To be honest, I just like it as a watering hole mate and I'm glad it's open again.

I wouldn't drink anywhere near the ground. The Bradford used to be away friendly but I think they got shut down recently after a drugs bust ? No great loss if true, it was a dive.

Best places to drink nearish to the ground if you're looking for a couple of quieter ones and aren't wearing any colours/making it clear you're going to the match (this isn't a City/Everton thing, just bars keeping their clientele happy by keeping football fans to a minimum) are:

The Smithfield (recently reopened under Blackjack brewery) or Fringe on Great Ascots Street
Port Street on Port Street if you are into your beer.
Castle or Gullivers on Oldham St (Castle actually has a spoken word night running that night and I think a blue runs it, if I remember rightly)

All these are pubs aware that they are close to the City stadium and don't take kindly to colours or groups of football fans, for obvious reasons. But if it's a couple of you who find yourself in town early they're worth a stop.

Oyster bar is okay for a big outside spot that is used to loads of football fans and serves cheap, if pretty terrible, beer. Also near newly re-opened Corn Exchange if you want food is next door.

Decent local website for slightly more interesting places: http://www.creativetourist.com/food-drink/

Never been to the Etihad before and was wondering what the away pub usually is? And what pub (if any) Blues will be drinking in before the game?

Thanks in advance :D

* mods please move/remove this post if it is in the wrong place or not allowed *

Anywhere in Canal Street is good for a drink. Just look for the rainbow street signs down by the canal and you'll know you're in the right place x

Going in early with my dad and parking near Piccadilly after last weeks problems, get some tea, have a drink whatever, then walk down. Take it there are places around Piccadilly (will be leaving colours in the car) as I dont really know that area, as from where I get the train from, I usually get off at Victoria rather than Piccadilly.

some good pubs round tib street, the tib street tavern is a good one, not far from station. northern quarter itself has some decent bars.
