Is anyone going to be watching in Manchester minus a ticket? I live here and unless the very unlikely event of a spare happens I'll be looking to watch it out, but don't want to be the only blue there!!

And I agree about briton's protection - if you want to drink around that way get off at Oxford road station (if on the train). Piccadilly areas a bit horrible too, so tram from deansgate is worth doing.

Though anyone who's been before, St. Peter's square tram stop is closed so don't plan to use it!

True, it looks the part. But it's been all fur coat and no knickers for years. Have never had a decent pint in this place.

A grand old fashioned pub, narrow front bar and all sorts of nooks & crannies throughout, including a beer garden. A fair crowd was there, banter & laughter, engaged & efficient service. My diary says I had a pint of Briton's Protection, not sure if they had a house brand or I had a brain hiccup. Whatever, it was 3.50 & quite satisfactory. Top pub.

Love it!!! What a fantastic place, great people, great surroundings and great beer!!! I love my history, and in particular Manchester History, and the "BP" has it in abundance with murals on the walls and characters behind the bar.... We grabbed a quick bite to eat, service was really good, plenty of choice and all at a reasonable price. Highly recommend paying visit, if anything just to see the amount of whiskies on offer!!

First real day of sunshine in manchester and found myself sitting within the pleasant surrounds of the rear beer garden at the Britons Protection in town. Proper traditional pub nestled just perfect in the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Had a very nice club sandwich from the new food menu and a pint of real ale. Lots of quirky features about the pub that will last in my memory far longer than the exceedingly boring journey home on the train. Long May the likes of these real drinking establishments flourish and brighten our days ahead.

Recently been in the Britons protection not been in for a while seems like there has been some improvements but kept everything original in this old fashioned pub. Large beer garden at rear is very clean and has been painted including the whiskey flavour map on the wall as this pub is big for whiskeys. I had lunch here as i realised that they had a new food menu, the menu had a wide variety of choice and was reasonably priced. The food was nicely presented and tasted good just what i wanted for at lunch time. Ale was excellent and will be returning soon.

Definitely better heading out towards Deansgate and Castlefield way. Other parts of the centre are a bit of a mess at moment. Anyone driving might be better off going anywhere on the Altrincham line where you can park. Trams are great

Definitely agree on that! Traffic last week was a bit weather related but its not worth the risk really.

Had a little scout round Manchester today while the Missus dragged me round the shops.

Looks like there are good boozers about the city centre, I will probably end up in a Wetherspoons though.
