2025/26 Charly Alcaraz

….McNeil’s contribution last night should be commended, regardless of what you think of him. Be interesting to see the ground he covered last night, worth watching where he ended up from crucially winning the ball in the lead up to the 2nd goal.
He was better dien the middle - that was a great team effort last night .....

What are our thoughts on Alcaraz half way through the season? Personally i thought at the end of last season he was a must buy after some impressive performances. But this season, particularly recently ive been a bit less impressed and i can see why Moyes kept him on the bench for so long. The issue seems to be technically and decision making. He seems to play well off the cuff but not when having to have a think about what hes doing.

Not a bad player to have to bring off the bench when trying to change a game but maybe that will be all, hopefully not.

i don’t think his game has been helped though by how little minutes hes had

but ye i think weve seen more deficiencies in his game this year as we’ve had more of the ball, he provably suited more our smash and grab style last year

still think hes got a lot of tools, he gets up the pitch with the ball at his feet faster than any of our other players (not as in control as grealish or ndiaye but he is faster and can be more direct than both), hes got a strike on him, he is always involved in a chance or two when he starts, and really good in the air too. i like the spark and southern american bite he has too

will have a big part to play in second half if moyes uses him

Yes praising him - it was a team effort Alcaraz if fit would have played....
… and we possibly (I think probably) would not have won. No guarantee Alcaraz plays the ball that McNeil did for the first goal or that he plays the ball to Barry for the start of the second goal, like McNeil did, and then makes the run to draw the defenders wider , like McNeil did, to allow Garner to play it in to Barry again. Alcaraz would probably have run with the ball instead dithered around with it and lost it like he has done in several games recently.

Tim made that first goal possible in the first place - it was a great team effort - Dwight looks better down the middle I give you that never a winger though, far too slow .... can't beat a man either .....

the whole team played very well - a big step up than v Burnley away .....

I wouldn’t say he’s had that small an amount of minutes to be honest. 8 starts and 9 sub appearances at the halfway point is hardly a situation where he’s coming in cold and not up to speed.

For me I think he looks every inch the £15m attacking midfielder we bought
