2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

We aren't getting a good look at him because he was dropped for a player that has massively underperformed in the number 10 position and has no future here. That is by far the biggest problem regardless of whether you rate him or not.

…I think it’s wrong comparing Doucoure to Alcaraz as no 10s because Doucoure isn’t a conventional no 10.

There’s absolutely no doubt that Alcaraz is the better no 10 and Moyes might well acquire him for that role next season but Doucoure is selected because of his value and effectiveness to the team. Indeed, there’s an argument to say he’s a midfielder who can support and get beyond the central striker.

There’s probably 5 or 6 reasons Doucoure plays ahead of Alcaraz and none of them is because he’s a better no10.

Wasn't able to watch the game today, did he have a disaster cameo or what? Surprised to come in this thread and see that the general consensus has seemingly turned to him not being good enough.

Has it turned? I've never been convinced he's good enough. Had a decent game against Palace but that's been it really
I've liked him personally, not the finished article but I like the fact that when he gets on the ball he drives forward rather than looking sideways. As I said though didnt see the game today so no idea how he fared.

Everybody except Mykolenko was crap. He was completely anonymous, but at same time, he shouldn't of been put on left wing.
Yeah clear to me he's not comfortable on the wing and always wants to come inside. Assuming he came on for Ndiaye then?

Technically could work him being on the left if we have someone staying wide on the right allowing him space to cut in to the middle... obviously wants to be playing central though realistically

Was played out of what seems to be his best position again, on the left of midfield, but did seem to be somewhat anonymous / cba.
Was a tough game for an attacking player (see Ndaiye) so hard to tell if this what to expect from him if he’s not starting or just the game plan didn’t suit.

This seems a fair enough assessment, like him personally and wouldn't read too much into him having an off game against city while played out of position.

Seems like general concensus is that more or less that every player bar myko was rubbish today.

Doucoure was one of our better players today really. (rarely?)

He more than likely does have a short term future here. We should probably prepare for that!

The only thing I’m reading into is how few starts he’s made. I totally understand the clause about buying given a certain number of starts. But we have less games left that wouldn’t approach that number, even given how many he’s started, to where he could begin a few matches. That hints at confidence in him as a starter.
