Nothing against Boro but I have a strong feeling the wider football community will be backing Hull on Saturday after all this
As for the Saints, they’re in for an utter turmoil of a summer now, manager and his team will be sacked and the embarrassment may cause several of the squad to want to leave and potential signings to turn around and say ‘no thanks’

Unbelievable statement from Southampton that just emphatically misses the point talking about all the financials. This isn’t a financial penalty. It’s a sporting one. They’ve been kicked out because they cheated at the game. The finances don’t matter here.

I watched the second leg of the tie and thought Boro were better that Southampton. City did the double over the Saints in the league and thought they'd have a better chance against them.

All Everton seem to do is run between sticks, play 5 on 5 games and do shooting drills and have penalty-taking competitions, then in actual games have no desire to attack, miss 3/3 penalties in the cup, and largely show a complete lack of desire to outwork their opponents.
I'm guessing, at most, you might spot some set piece move being practiced or see if certain players aren't training and it could give a slight edge, but the risk far, far, far outweighs the reward, as Southampton have just found out.

The right outcome from a sporting integrity perspective but as ever it's the fans that suffer.
does stink a bit. were the first 2 episodes of spying practice runs? from a sporting integrity point the play offs have been turned to rubble because the outcome has been zeroed. southampton should be charged for the wembley play off write off + compo for boro fans + policing and event running. With interest. With a fine for bringing the game into disrepute. Whack em with a £900m fine. That'll wake a few sides up to the rules.
Obviously such a punitive stance would have to mean chelsea and man city will need similarly destroying. but I'm fine with that...
I’m amazed pundits and specifically the club are surprised by the decision . After Leeds The rules were changed to ensure an appropriate penalty could be enforced and as far as I’m aware they said it’d be a sporting penalty. The club are in the playoffs , separate to the normal league fixtures so the penalty feels entirely appropriate. Particularly as it’s happened on multiple occasions, they’ve been convicted of three but it feels fanciful to imagine they’d randomly selected those three in isolation .
In the Canadian example they docked the side 6 points, out of a maximum of 9 available and banned those involved for a year .
Unlike the prem The history of the EFL shows them rigidly enforcing the rules . They chucked Swindon out of their cup when they fielded ineligible players , 30 points off Luton and 20 off off Derby .
The fact that the sentence was severe should have surprised nobody.
I read a fairly lengthy article dissecting events and there are other clubs who believed they were spied on but declined to cooperate. I suspect it’s a lot more than three occasions and from evidence provided from a whistleblower it seemed to be accepted and the source of humour that it’s just what the club did.
