Champions League should be our goal...

That's right, piss on my chips, Azzbot...

I'm usually you're typical bluenose pessimist, too, but I just think we will be up there this season - over the last three years we've improved year on year - why should that stop this season?

I suffered through the 90s too, but over the last five years Everton (of all things) has continued to cheer me up.

The philospher Wittgenstein said "I begin each day in hope, and end it in despair" - for you pessimists (hi Azzbot), this season will be the opposite...

Why should it stop this season.....asking the wrong people.

Go and ask who ever is in charge of transfers (y)

EVERTON

The FA Cup final and fifth place in the Premier League was a superb return for an Everton squad ravaged by serious injuries down the spine of the team - Phil Jagielka, Mikel Arteta and Yakubu - and built without the aid of a huge budget.

The motivational and organisational skills of manager David Moyes and the resilience of his squad must not be under-estimated, but financial circumstances make it almost impossible to forecast a similar league finish this term.

Chairman Bill Kenwright has been unable to bring major investment to Everton, while close rivals Villa, Spurs and particularly Manchester City have splashed out. It leaves Moyes to perform a trick which gets more difficult with every passing season.

Everton's determination to keep Joleon Lescott away from Manchester City shows they still have ambition, but without the money to fuel that ambition it is hard to see another fifth place this season.

VERDICT: Top Ten.

BBC - BBC Sport: Phil McNulty: How will the Premier League unfold?

Ouch.

The only people who believe we will get anywhere near remotely 4th or 5th are the deluded one's on here (y)

McNulty is talking sh*t- its not just about money.

BTW I don't think it matters that much who we sign - the core team has been pretty much the same for years and we're improving - the more that professional footballers play together the better they become as a team.

Don't get me wrong, we should still criticise and grip when players/managers/chairmen let us down- that is our right, but forget about the cash and the transfers and look at the tactics and the team spirit (isn't that what football is all about?) - and we are up there with the best... I'm bored of everone talking about money - My pay is crap, but I get on with the people I work with and we work well as a team and we get the job done - Everton is the same, its why I love our club... you can't buy that spirit

[sorry for ranting]

We will be about the same as last season so long as Yak, Mikel and Jagielka come back from their injuries on schedule. Confidence and mentality makes a massive difference to where you finish in the league, ours is actually quite good now. We know we should be beating most teams in the league home and away and it shows. I don't think we will get top four, but we'll definitely be up there. Man City are the only club that have signed enough players to make them significantly better than they were last season, welcome competition. Spurs and Villa are still on our level. It should be exciting.

Us fans are full of optimism, it is just a shame Kenwright is only concerned with lining his own pockets. I have been a bit down this summer because this is when we should be progressing that extra level, unfortunately to date, we have not improved from this time last year. That is a harsh reallity that i continually attempt to disguise but reallity is finally begining to hit home with me.

Our form from about Oct on was CL form make no mistake about it peoples!

Its not about who we sign for me - its all about Moyesy and his backroom team.

Now, now Ghost, im sure he wants Everton to win every single game, we all do. You clearly think we will finish in the top 4, im inclined to think that unless we sign 2-3 players of quality we wont.

But I will be hoping that we win every single game.

No I am saying we have a chance because we already proved it with a worse squad.

Is Moyesy going to play centre back? Chris Woods in goal maybe?

Ofcourse it's about the players, we need to improve on what we've got.

The Corbett cat writes a lot of sense.
I reckon i'm somewhere around Toccys stance at the moment.

Cheers Chicoazul (what does that mean anyway? I'd rather have YOUR answer than Google it)

Sounds like a South American demon!

I'm just bored, bored, bored of finance talk - when did football fans become amateur accountants? I missed that meeting...

I love the transfer speculation tho - its all we had - until tommorow.

COYBs

Our squad has been dire for years. We shouldn't have ever finished 4th with that squad.

Our squad this year wont be able to compete with the squads of Tottenham, City, Villa, and dare I say it, even Sunderland. Faccccht.
