Is that supposed to be an argument against the competition failing as a spectacle? That just represent cash generated by corporate sponsors who rely on UEFA to make sweeping changes if need be to "the product"...which they'll now do because a) a number of the moribund elite want to keep their snouts in the trough and b ) the lack of great individuals and teams is becoming obvious so a structural shake up is being used to inject "more flavour" back in.

The corporate sponsors put that cash in for a reason. More and more of it every year, because more and more people are watching year after year all over the world.

This year's competition will include Messi, Ronaldo, Hazard, Neymar, Mbappe, the cream of world footballing talent including two credible candidates for the goat title.

I think you start with your conclusion, then work backwards to try and justify it.

Thats the circle I cant square. You might not enjoy the format, or be offended cos some better teams won it a few years ago, but the prize money is eye watering. And sponsors generally dont lob ££££ at a failing product. Not for long anyrate.

The truth is they're not that clever. They have very little subtlety. That comes from having a lot of arrogance and no sense of self reflection. They are different to us, there's no question about it.

Cash = quality. That's your argument for believing the CL is not an almighty 'kin mess that's in need of (and getting) a revamp?

BTW, over the hill Messi and Ronaldo + and a bevy of players some way off the class of those two in their prime = decline.
