Well, the noise happens kind of every so often, and the crunching doesn't happen every time i brake. Just sometimes as well. I've got a 20 minute drive home later...not confident of making it.

(i'm jealous of your Audi aceness).

Hard to say then really, might be something as simple as needing new brake pads, that's what the crunching sounds like it might be. Could well be something else though. Nailed on it won't do it when you take it to a mechanic as well. Bloody cars! Get it in to a garage would be my advice. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Nah you've helped a lot mate.

I spoke to a guy here and he reckons brake pads too. Are they expensive do you know?

Thanks.

i had a problem with something similar about a tear ago,,,,, turned out to be a simple little thing as a stone was stuck between the disc and wheel bit.

Aye, could be something like that.

Ijjy - should be under £100 including labour if it's just the pads I should think. It's not a difficult or time-consuming job. Shouldn't take them more than an hour and brake pads aren't usually particularly expensive, unless you want really special ones. If that's what it turns out to be, like.

Best to get it seen to sooner rather than later as well or you'll probably damage the discs as well, and they're more pricey.

I think my Puma is dying.

Can anyone help me?

Driving into work this morning its starts growling (well not growling, but making a weird noise) and the brakes start to feel weird...the best way i can describe it is 'crunchy'. I was able to stop, but it defo felt like they were about to break. I might not make it home tonight I don't think.

What is happening?

Sounds like yours brake pads have no material left on them and now you are putting the metal backing of the pad directly onto the rotor. Basically, not good. If you don't get new pads now, you will end up having to replace your rotors as well as your pads.

Oh, brake pads have wear indicators built into them. They make a dire noise that lets you know you need to change pads. But you can 'wear' through that and the noise goes away and you think all is good again (when it is not)

I had a stone stuck inbetween the rotor and the pad once. God it sounded AWFUL!!!!!!

Yes D1. I'm sure you've upgraded by now but I am still going to bask in the glory that someone else had my girl car.

I have never owned a Clio (but I did have sex with a girl named Nicole in one).

My first car was a 1999 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS (The looks of the WRX but with their largest naturally aspirated engine from the Legacy stuck in it. A 2.5l boxer 4, with 165hp and 166lb-ft torque. Of course when the real WRX was released in the States I traded the 2.5RS in and got the turbo)

I drive a Ford Focus 2006... Paid off in two months... Thinking of getting a Ford Edge....

Sounds like your brake pads Ijjy. The less driving and sooner you can get to a brake place the better.

By rotors do you mean discs? Not heard the term "rotors" before in relation to brakes, but Americans call loads of parts by different names. You call silencers "mufflers", for instance *lol*.

Rude. Bet it made a horrible (by which I mean lovely) noise.

Got a 2005 Jeep Liberty Renegade - 3.7l U.S. Spec Import.

Guy I bought it off had it raised, installed some beast of an exhaust system and a bullbar.

All of which the govt here made me change back when I renewed it's registration...

CalipersI think mate, just replaced calipers, discs, pads on my Grand Cherokee....... wasn't cheap, and 2nd hand calipers as well

And the Puma is in the garage and i'm working from home (as if!!).

I fear this will be expensive!!

When they quote you a price ask if you get the bits yourself will they fit them? Itll take longer to get your car back on the road but youll save yourself a packet.

Just google the bits you need or try ebay
