Thing is though, that’s a bit like a boxing trainer shouting ‘hit him back’ when his man’s getting pummelled with body shots and can hardly stand up. It’s one thing wanting it to happen, it’s another thing to create the conditions that make it possible.

He has made him captain, started him, brought him on when we’re ahead, behind, and level, and shoehorned him in in positions he clearly can’t play. This. I’ve made peace with the fact that he’s going to be infecting us for at least another full season. I actually expect him to be here for as long as Ancelotti is. It’s sickening, but we should all just get used to it.

See, I rate Gylfi - purely as a number 10. I actually think, purely in that position, he did well tonight for what we 'created' (loosely). IIRC, he's involved in every single one of our chances, including the goal.

But, that's the only place he can play in. Literally everything backs this up - watching the match, stats, everything.

People accuse Gylfi of 'pulling the wool' over Carlo's eyes. No, as you say, he just rates him, and seems to rate him so much that he thinks he can do jobs he quite clearly can't do.

Now, will that change come next season when we hopefully have a better midfielder in? I'd like to think so. But, who knows.

Half agree. There's been plenty of times in games that Carlo has wanted the team to do something and they've either not done it or aren't capable.

But... they do train nearly every day...

I don't have an issue with us defending in a low block - we're better at it than we are not. But, we have to strike that balance of being able to attack too. That has to be worked on. We can't keep being reliant on the same thing over and over again, because teams figure it out.

Also, I don't get why we all just accept that it takes time and transfer windows for a manager to get across ways of playing.

Bielsa took a pre-season. Rodgers took half a season. Klopp took half a season.

Yes, better players help and yes, I can't wait until Carlo gets another £60m to spend. But... it doesn't mean we can't expect a bit better than what we're getting. Just actually trying to play through teams would be a start.

Just shouting push up doesn’t mean it’s the players that want to stay deep (it might be them, I’m not saying it’s definitely not) so you need to work out why they aren’t doing what you ask. Do they need a target up top to hit to allow them to get out, do they need a runner that can push them up the pitch etc. All I mean is just saying ‘that’s not what he wants’ doesn’t mean it isn’t him that’s causing it.

Don’t think this was the case, in fact I’m certain it was Ancelotti that stopped that transfer from happening.

I like your optimism, but Pickford and Sigurdsson will both still be here starting most games next season unfortunately mert.

This was his team v Spurs 1st game and apart from rotating for Carabao games Siggy remained on the bench only deputising for Allan when he was injured.
He's had more game time as he's available through injuries etc.
When he gets more of his own players in he'll be further down the pecking order.
Same for Pickford at the moment he's the only option other than a keeper that he could have had for 8 mil but chose to keep him on loan.

We'll see anyway.

It's one of the reasons i feel like Doucoure gets wasted.

Now, I'll caveat that with the view that I feel he too often tries to move the ball on quickly. I don't think he's shirking responsibility, I think he's just the type of player who feels he is better giving it to someone who is technically better than him.

But, he's the only player we have in midfield who can drive forward with the ball. That should be our outball in a low block. Him playing basically at right-back doesn't help that, but it doesn't seem like a tactic that we use because Doucoure hardly ever does it. And I can't imagine that he's the type of player to totally ignore instructions.

I don't think he knows what to do with these players.

The centre midfielders can't pass the ball quickly enough to play out from the back, and the defence can't push up if it's going to be Keane +1 in the middle, but then it's only really Doucoure who has the legs to chase up the pitch and support direct balls to the forwards.

The squad is still a mess.

Other teams will buy good players.

They might even try and buy some of ours.

And we'll get good money for them to reinvest. Difference with having Carlo at the club is that we can attract good players. Look who came last summer. Were they coming here under Martinez Koeman, Allardyce or Silva? Not a chance. You're beating the wrong person with the stick mate. Ancelloti is the least of our worries. Our team is overhyped by us and because of that we expect to be top 4/6 right now. Ask yourself how many of our players would get in other teams aiming for top 4, it won't be many if you're honest with yourself. Ancelloti will get us back into European football but there's gonna be some crap results while we have the players we have unfortunately, no point blaming Ancelloti because after him our only option is lesser managers like who we've had before him and they've failed miserably. Get behind him, he'll bring success to this club but it'll take time. Look at City, that's where we need to be close to recruitment wise, now look at us, the gulf is gigantic atm.

That only makes sense if Carlo has a history of building sides and making them better. That didn't happen at Napoli, it didn't happen at Bayern, it didn't work at Madrid, and it didn't happen at Chelsea. The longer he stayed, the worse they got until he got sacked.

This is just a way to not have to admit we're not doing well, by saying it is some easily fixable thing.

I am 100% convinced if we had given this same crop of players to Brendon Rogers or Pochettino they would have instilled belief and positive approach to the same crop of players.

I would bin more than 50% of this squad still but I refuse to accept that a squad assembled and changed over for over 500M has excuse for not being good enough to start games positively and be more creative than Digne to DCL path.

If this bile of poo is to continue then Carlo, Brands and the board need to be accountable for the direction they have taken this club in.
