The worrying thing is statements like this.......“he wants reassurances over the type of squad he could expect to work with”. What, now? Or in the future?
He should already know what our squad looks like. Some on here say it’s boss, that we’ve just been unlucky with injuries or it’s been mismanaged etc. Others say it’ll be unrecognisable come September if Carlo signs, which suggests most of our ‘boss’ squad will have been moved on. He can’t be turning up and losing the first 5 games and then saying “this squad is rubbish”.

In the future, I'd imagine. Over the length of contract supposedly offered, that's the main concern.
We can't spend money we don't have, but at the same time there will be resources.
He knows our squad at present and he also knows we are not Man City.
Budget will be a key concern in the overall context of what it is that both he and the club would expect to achieve under his direction.
With the degree of flux in the league, it isn't wildly unrealistic to push for top 4-6 with some sound but not gargantuan further spending.
