Cancelling this season's Premier League

Should football be canceled until August and this season declared null and void?

See footballers have become the new immigrants/benefit scroungers scapegoats

Cant attack immigrants now as we are in the middle of a crisis and a large portion of our "NHS heroes" are immigrants - bad look

Cant attack 'benefit scroungers' when millions more are now in the same boat - bad look.

Yes I agree that they earn a ridiculous amount of money and should accept some reduction or give a large portion to charity (which they may already do), but to target them as the reason or blame them for non playing staff being laid off is a disgrace.

Why not target most of the billionaire owners of these clubs? Why not target millionaire bankers, CEO's of massive corporations or tax dodgers? Its because they are in the limelight and popular so it attracts attention and an easy target

The usual Tory slight of hand tactics of getting people to focus their anger and attention on a set of people whilst they are up to their usual evil tricks.
I mean they haven't covered themselves in glory some of them and that goes for the clubs and the people running the Premier League. Pretty sure other well off businessmen have come under attack recently as well.

The stupidity of that suggestion is absolutely staggering. The world has come to a standstill because of the coronavirus and some bright spark thinks we should play the reminder of the season in ground zero!

The only possible excuse for auther of that trash is that it's a parody but even then it's still in extremely poor taste.
"Right lads we can see the season out safely... in China"

I'm sure that'll go down a treat.

You can just imagine the reaction. Five minutes of uncomfortable silence while the players wait for a punchline that never comes followed by uncontrollable laughter for around half an hour as it dawns on them that it was a serious suggestion! Texts are sent and agent's begin calling in from every player and manager all saying "no, lmfao!" in every conceivable manner and language before the laughter even begins to die down!

I could rant on all day about this. There are so many angles. But can you just imagine the conversation of the PL to the Chinese government;

PL: Yes we were hoping we could finish our season in your country
Chinese Government (CG): Well you are aware we have the virus too, in fact we were the epicentre

Pl: Yes we're happy to chance it
CG: Why don't you just play it in your own country
PL: Yes, we are under lockdown and it's not safe to do so in our country currently. We have really high infection rates here and don't like the governments lockdown, so thought we could come and float the rules in China. We know you've worked really hard to turn the tide of the virus over the last 3 months, and isolate it to largely a single area, but surely you can see hundreds if not thousands of players and staff (many who have had the virus themselves) coming to your country would not be in any way problematic.

Can't be caught for what, a place in the play-offs with the other 5 teams who would then be in contention?

Exactly. It's a completely different league system therefore it can't be compared. If it was a standard 'play each other twice' format, then even then it cant be compared - because they were 15 points clear with a game to go.

Kopites are literally clutching at anything right now. Give it up. There's more pressing matters in the world.

Maybe we should go out onto the streets on Saturday at 3pm and applaud these people earning upwards of £100,000 a week for refusing to give up any of their salary, at a time of worldwide strive. Their struggle is indeed stunning and brave.

Football needs to take a pay-cut, from the owners and directors to the players, however, forgive me if I'm not supportive of the players at what I'm sure is very difficult time for them...

BBC:
Pushing the date back would allow Premier League clubs the chance to offer their stadiums and medical staff to the National Health Service, knowing they would not be required in the short term.

That would at least correct some of the negative publicity that has accompanied news that four clubs, including Tottenham, are already using the government's furlough scheme to compensate laid-off workers by up to £2,500-a-month, despite their players and manager Jose Mourinho, some of whom earn in excess of £100,000-a-week, remaining on full pay.

Unbelievable. Contrast that with this.....

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe and Brighton counterpart Graham Potter have both taken the personal decision to accept significant cuts without waiting for any central directive from the LMA.

And I hope to God we’re not one of those four clubs.

I think those 4 clubs are Newcastle, Spurs, Bournemouth and Norwich.
