Can we still make it to Europe?

Logic would say no. We are level on points with Leicester who have a game in hand and a vastly superior goal difference and we are 3 points behind Burnley who have a game in hand a vastly superior goal difference.

Our only saving grace is that Leicester put all of their eggs into the replay against Chelsea (if they lose maybe it will crack their confidence, if they win maybe the players will save themselves for the semi final) and we've seen Burnley have a wretched run of form prior to the game against us (before we gave them a massive helping hand) so maybe they might go on another bleak run but their home record suggests they'll get enough points to keep us at arms length.

As for whether I'd want Europe League or not, I absolutely would. It's our best chance at getting Champions League, the Top 6 look like they are hear to stay unfortunately. Their squads are so strong and to finish ahead of any of them over a 38 game league season is a mighty tough ask.

Most of the fan base are agreed that a squad overhaul is required too and being part of Europe helps in this regard. A new manager will need to ensure that our team and also our bench are strong enough to compete. Being out of Europe might convince our board to keep several of our current squad players around as they won't be needed as much next season which would be very depressing. We need a lot of incomings over Summer from top to bottom in this squad.

Completely forgot they had changed the rules... Ignore this part lol

It's a strange one imo
You want the best for the club which is a yes
But if it's a fresh start with a new manager then it's probably to much of a distraction

You have to say yes tbh.

As we're playing 3 rounds of qualifiers (if we get through), the standard of teams in the first couple of rounds should be mediocre enough to send the U23's through with no real difficulty. That's even with Everton being everton.

I think to build a core of success, you need to ingrain success into the players.

Consistent seasons in Europe would be the boost to say, lets do this every year and make gradual progress, like City, Liverpool and Spurs had to. By being a regular European name, you attract better calibre of players and that can only be good.

Personally, I think we're too far off now.

I would really love us making Europe but I doubt it will happen.

Sam was asked in his post match interview about what happens now that we have reached the 40 point mark and whereas one would think his answer would have been about finishing as high as possible and making Europe, he instead started talking about “next season” again.

So although the next two matches take care of themselves in terms of motivation, I suspect the sun cream and flip flops will come out after the derby and the last five matches will see the season peter out.

Meh..

As others have said, its very difficult to say.

Pros
Europa makes us more attractive to Managers/Players
Euro aways are boss, not that I go on them, but I like to think of others!
Euro homes are decent also
Its worth wedge, not loads, but still wedge

Cons
Highly unlikely we "sack" a manager who got us Europa
We need a season without distractions, ideally, a World cup year starting our season in June AGAIN, would be a bit much IMO

I guess we see what happens, I doubt the next 2 games will help, but they arent important in the grand scale of things, im sure Burnley and Leicester have some hard games left.
