Can we please give 4-4-2 a go?

Actually think we should change it for these next few games. We need more of the ball.

To me it's not really about how much time you have with the ball it's what you do with it when you do. Playing 2 up front we have more options and are more threatening when we attack.

I think our strength is hitting teams on the counter with 2 strikers. If we move one back to midfield we're more likely to invite teams on to us in the next few games and that's when we struggle.

Fight fire with fire. Need to play to our strengths not overly worry about the opposition.

4-4-2 is just the starting formation and the shape in which the players work. As part of the 2 DCL will play it differently than Richarlison, he’ll likely be the one furthest up field Rich the one most likely to work back when we’ve lost the ball when the shape may be closer to 4-5-1 for a while or even 4141 if Schneiderlin drops further back , morphing into 443 or 424 if we attack e.g. Bernards goal on Saturday. That’s the beauty of the system , it’s not out of date, it just depends on good coaching and good players to operate it flexibly depending upon what’s going on on the pitch. At its worst it’s just 4 players at the back 4 players in the middle and an isolated front 2.
The difference it has made to DCLs game is measurable in terms of goals and assists , now he flicks a header on and Richarlison picks it up and spends more time in front of goal instead of having to roam across the whole pitch on his own. The encouraging thing for me is that Carlos has it working well with the same players we’ve had all season .

It wouldnt have worked if Silva did it.

Carlo is a man that knows how to make 442 work.

But with most sides moving away from 4231 and switching to 2 up top in most cases its a great time for a switch.
