Can we catch Villa?

I had a modicum of faith way back when this thread was started but even I've been impressed and surprised by how well the team have coped with the setbacks thrown at them with injuries. To have combined the league form with a run to the cup final makes it even more impressive. The boys have done good.

Not to be pedantic, but Villa's form has been atrocious since the thread was started. Given the excellent start they had, it is surprising that they collapsed like that.

while villa are 11 points ahead of us, they just aren't that good. teams will get on to their one and only game plan and make it difficult for them. their season started much earlier, they've got to go to russia in midweek, and are yet to play liverpool, man utd and us. i feel it will be very, very close.

you should listen to this fella. he speaks sense. and before any of you pedants say that there is one game left, the thread is "can we catch them?" which we have already done. so get belmed.

Without wishing to brag, I thought it possible that Villa would collapse from the start simply because they had used so few players all season. Their luck was bound to run out and fatigue would set in. What's surprised me is how well we've maintained our own form. Very impressive. With our squad traditionally being small we've usually suffered in the run in, but this year, even with the injuries, we've maintained our form well.

I really think this team has reached a tipping point this season. Not only are we playing right until the end but we're also playing well against the so called top 4. Last season we didn't have it against the big boys. Look at the Carling semi as a prime example. This season has been very different. It's like the lads finally believe they belong at the top table now.

Everton started terribly and Villa started brightly.

Everton has ended brightly and Villa have ended terribly.

Almost a mirror image.

they're getting beating 1-0 at the moment. they may have liverpool and utd away but we've got them and chelsea away. if they get beat today i think they're bottle'll go. 8pts behind if it stays like this and we win 2morra. we play wba at home next week and they play stoke at home. so i can see much progression in the next few weeks but at the end of the season we'll be above them, but i don't reckon it'll be a champs league spot tho.

i'm ******* boss me, shame about picking the winning lottery numbers. mite try the cursed numbers from lost.

Can't help to think that Villa just aren't that good. Profited enormously from Everton's slow start to the season. Honestly don't believe Villa belong in the top 6, based on quality. A case of punching above their weights?

Despite being in the aye camp (woop) I think we have to give major credit to the lads. I remember when Arteta got injured against the Toon that this place was a pretty downbeat place.

The most impressive thing about the side this year is the sheer bloodymindedness of the squad. Lose Yakubu, no problem, other people step up. Lose all of our strikers, no problem, Cahill and Fellaini turn in great performances. Lose Arteta, no problem, Pienaar becomes a man possesed. Whatever fate has thrown at the team this season they've overcome it. This is why I think we have a great chance against Chelsea because I simply don't think this particular bunch of players know when to stop. There's a real belief in the squad at the moment that we can beat anyone.

That we're playing arguably as well as I can ever remember under Moyes despite the huge names that are missing from the side is testament to that. 'Tis truely a great time to be a Toffee.
