....bit surprised, I thought he’d exploit the Australia/Asia market where he’s a superstar. My favourite Everton player of the modern era, but fine players don’t always make fine coaches and the club already houses too many ex-players on the coaching staff.

Nice to see him back, though.

He's doing his A License with the FAW so it's just time in a professional setting to count towards that.

The ex players we have on the coaching staff where all mediocre at best, had some heart yes, but none of them where special.

Cahill at least was successful at international level and clearly had some drive.

Boa Morte, Ferguson & Unsworth? i'd sack them all in a shot.

....Ebbrell, Jevons, Jeffers, Tait. It’s as though you need to have played for the club to get a coaching post.

I get the ethic to be honest. But as on the pitch, we have a 'nice' streak in us, which is destroying any drive, or ambition. It stinks of 'this is how we do things around here'.

The oldboys mafia.

Two of the three you’d sack there are Everton trophy winners.

Cahill won nothing.

Coach and player are different jobs.

There's a story about why Bobby Charlton never made it as a coach from when he managed Preston. He was trying to drill a free kick routine involving whipping the ball the back post and they just weren't getting it. The lad couldn't put the ball where Charlton wanted it as quickly or accurately as was required. Charlton stepped in, in his suit and dress shoes, and did it first time. Told him that;s how you do it and walked off.

How does that help the lad? Your job as a coach is to help players improve. Not win football games.
