I wouldn't want him to go either. He's got to fight for his place and be prepared to drop to the bench if required though.Wouldn't want him to either.
On his day still one of the best in the league (Chelsea at the Bridge a few weeks back is a fine example of that), but at the same time there's no urgent need to shoehorn him back into the side for the sake of it.
Oviedo is playing well and deserves his place. The good thing about Baines is I for one do feel he has the experience and ability to be able to become a bit more of a utility player for us.
I genuinely wouldn't mind seeing him in a midfield three (probably alongside Barry and Besic) in a game towards the end of the season (obviously depending what's at stake)/pre-season.
Definitely has the ability to play there.
His attitude on occasion is a thing I dont like. Both this season and last he's been a bit too critical of the play and seems to place himself outside of all that. If he's a senior player and feels that he's earned the right to speak out, that's fair enough. But if he's that vocal off the pitch he should be expected to be doing it where it matters: on the pitch. Doesn't do that though. Just mopes about and finds himself part and parcel of poor defensive performances and then slopes off the pitch - eventually to bemoan to journalists the fact we're not defending well or 'game managing' well. He's on the pitch and keeps his trap shut though.
To my mind he's earned his place on the bench and now has it all to prove if he's to shift Oviedo out of the starting line up.
