I wouldn't have minded either, looked decent in the few fleeting glances that I saw him. The point is that he almost certainly won't. That ship has sailed and at this stage he would be doing well to get himself a permanent move to championship level. Maybe Wigan will take him on a permanent if he continues to do well and they get promoted.

Yeh unfortunatley he's not good enough at the moment. Barring in mind he's older than Rom as well... he's like Naismith-lite

Martinez seems to like players with the guts to fight back from long term injuries.Oviedo, Kone, and it also occurs to me that Roberto may have noticed a decline in Baines, and he will begin to be phased out if he hasn't already.

Baines is coming back from injury too mate and he'll be working hard to get his place back. He came out after the Stoke game ( with Ossie of all people ) to do a bit of training. I'm sure he'll be very much part of Martinez's plans for a couple of years yet. In the meantime, we have very serious competition for that place, which can only be a good thing.

Baines: it'd be nice if he is staying with us if he can learn how to build up a partnership with more than just Pienaar and also try and learn how to tackle/get close to attackers. Not too much to ask of an England international I dont think.

Baines has been our best left back for 50 years, and Jags possibly our best defender of the Premier league era, but any excuse to slate them eh.

The likes of Van Den Hauwe could actually defend. Being a defender that comes in quite handy.

Jagielka the best Everton defender in the PL era? Erm....
