Bruce Arena Era 2: Electric Boogaloo. USMNT Super Thread

After yesterday's nutmeg hat trick Guzan should be nowhere near this team. As crap as Howard is he is probably still the best option in net which is a bit sad

The USMNT admittedly clears free kicks and crosses well. Howard is a decent starter there, all he really has to do is worry about shot stopping.

I'm going to sorta kinda defend Klinsy there by saying that the local talent and european talent are equally pants. We don't even have a GK coming up, Howard is going to start until he's 47. How the bleep can this country not even produce a keeper?

No idea how accurate this is, but it's a list of names...

Another interesting take on it

Football doesn't produce talent the level of the NBA and the NFL is because it's a middle class sport in the states and they don't have to face the adversity that athletes in other sports do, so they lack the equivalent hunger to succeed

Thoughts on that?

Factually correct (actually, upper middle class probably...) It's less about these kids being soft as it is they have other options, and don't often pursue soccer careers. The problem is that poorer kids/families can't pursue soccer because of the pay-to-play system. When that goes away and poor kids can play the game at minimal cost, we'll have a team to be reckoned with.

When Clint Dempsey is the rule, not the exception, is when American soccer has come of age.

Anyone watch the U20 match this morning? Sargent (17 year old from Scott Gallagher) started up top and got 2 goals. Have to imagine a pro club will pick him up very soon if they haven't done already. Little Klinsy legit tried to give the game away with some stupid messing about in his own box that gifted Ecuador their third. 3-3 draw thanks to a last minute equalizer. CCV also didn't start, and his replacement got burned for the first 2 Ecuador goals.

Horvath started for Brugge at the end of the season after transferring from Norway. He'll likely be playing in the Champions League a bit next season so that will be good for him and us. He's still only 21. Also wouldn't be shocked if Hamid worked is way back into the picture given the lack of options.

De-Sert-Nin-Ja (clap clap clapclapclap)

FC Tucson is d-league for amateurs or college players to game on during the summer. So to see someone who spent time in Tucson show up in a USMNT kit, even U20, brings a smile to my face. One that overshadows our _efense conceding 3...

Aaaand on queue it looks like Sargent has agreed to join Werder Bremen once he turns 18. Game 2 against Senegal tomorrow early AM.

Seems about right although 7-10 aren't actually in the picture at all really

Which is both true and sad. Bill Hamid and Sean Johnson both were supposed to be the future at one point. Shame both have plateaued at mid-MLS keeper level.

I finally have enough time to start regularly visiting GOT again and silly season is in full swing with no international action* to save me from the misery this summer. 'Sake.

*I don't know if I'm ready to count the 2017 Gold Cup as international action. I'm more hoping it just doesn't happen given the current state of affairs.

Watch the U20s my friend. They play some nice stuff.
