Why are most people on all the various programmes about life on benefits absolutely enormous

Surely if you're skint, it'd be very difficult getting that fat ?

That's because most of them have an unhealthy eating pattern. Also they consume lots of cheap food products (for the most part unhealthy). I remember something that eating unhealthy is three times cheaper than eating healthy. This is under the assumption that you don't do a lot of research on how to eat healthy for a low price. Lots of pre-prepared meals and such are extremely unhealthy.

Makes sense now.

You can get pizzas and the like for next to nothing from certain shops, where as meat / fish and fresh veg costs much more in relative terms.

Yep mate.

Don't really know a solution I suppose you could work out a system where unhealthy food becomes more expensive, healthy food becomes cheaper or both. It would pay dividends in the long run (healthcare and such). Even so I think if you tried doing such a thing that there would be lots of disgruntled people.

Didn't they try putting a tax on sweet food/drink? Use that to discount fruit/veg etc...

Possibly I don't know about the UK situation but here in Belgium the government has created a system that obligates the food companies to reduce unhealthy ingredients (salt, sugar etc).

In 2020 all products should contain 10 percent less sugar. They are spreading it over a longer period so that people can get accustomed to the the new tastes.

If they would do such a thing I would be all for it; but lots of people would be unhappy I guess.
