Brands on Lozano and Bergwijn

Yes you need to negotiate and be good with the money but sometimes you have to pay what it takes to get in a quality player if available.

Its like saying "ah dat Messi fella aint proven in England I aint paying more than £50 million for him".

I support his belief that you shouldn't sign players unproven in the top divisons for big money, however for players like Lozano who have done well both in the World Cup and in the Champions League are worth every penny of £30 million in the current inflated market.

Brands - A Dutchman with a long professional career in Dutch football both on and off the field has stated he has some reservations about the prices being bandied about for a couple of players in the Dutch league from his former Dutch club. Both were playing there while he was still there. He probably played a part in their recruitment to PSV and no doubt knows a bit about both of them.

And you compare it to knocking back Messi for £50M? Brands is probably comparing it to spending £30M on Klassen.

If you had to choose one of these lads who would you go for Toff?

Hmm, a difficult question actually.

In terms of level of quality where the players are right now, Lozano is better. I've seen more of him tbf but it's fair to say he's ahead in his development.

But, I will say from what I've seen of Bergwijn, he has the physical attributes to be a real success in the Premier League.

He's more about pace, stretching the opposition and getting in behind. Lozano is more about intricate play and clever movement. Yes, he's quick, but I'd probably say Bergwijn is quicker.

So basically they'd both offer different things. If we were looking for a player to come in and replace Walcott, either would be great, but I'd say in terms of playing style Bergwijn would offer maybe more similar traits to Walcott (i.e. pace in behind a defence) than Lozano, who I'd compare more to a Lookman type player.

Happy to stand corrected by those who know more, but those are the assessments I've had of both after seeing them a handful of times.

He scored 5 goals Zat, and after a good start he quickly faded away ( I know it was because he had played a load of footy) all about opinions though, you thought he didn’t have a bad season (did you watch him for the season when he was at Watford?) the way I read it when we were looking at him before we signed him he had for the majority of the season been poor.

Important to remember that he was asked to take on a more defensive role under their new manager and, i dont have the stats now but he was rating very highly for tackle % and fouls against him.

Basically he was shunted from wide left to CF and then a left midfield role where he had to do a huge amount of defensive work...i thought he looked good.

Let’s not forget the commercial opportunities with Chucky in both Mexico AND the US.

Would cover,

Brazil - Richarlison / Bernard
Colombia - Mina
Mexico -Lozano

3 large countries over that side of the world and aside from commercially, other players would know who the club was as we have their fellow countrymen in the squad.

Which could make Brands job of finding top emerging players easier.

I would like Lozano as when I was in Mexico there was a gorgeous girl wearing a Mexico shirt with Lozano on the back. I asked to take her photo but she politely declined.

The point is that whenever I see him I smile and remember her fondly and would probably reach some tantric level of ecstasy if he scored the winner one day.

But Klaasan hasnt impressed in the world cup or looked the part against sides in the Champions League.

Lozano scored against Spurs and played really well

Klaassan on the other hand got completely bullied against Utd in the Europa League.

Comparing Lozano to others is daft as everything points to him being someone who would likely cut it in a top league.

I'm not sure signing players for potential commercial reasons really works out, unless they are a global mega star that transcends the sport, like Beckham was. I can't honestly believe loads of people in Mexico would become Everton fans, just because we sign a Mexican player, they will still support the established European teams; Real Madrid, Barcelona, etc
