Boxing

Still really surprised at so many writing Brook off.

Yeah, Golovkin definitely has power, but he's barely fought anyone of note, and those he has fought who are somewhat noteworthy are flat footed sluggers for the most like Martin Murray or David Lemieux, who are brave but very easy to hit. He's very rarely been in the ring with someone who moves, and definitely nobody who moves as fast as Brook. GGG is compact, amateur in his style, packs power - but on paper is tailor made for a fighter like Brook.

I really do think GGG will struggle to get to Brook, and conversely I don't think Brook will trouble GGG with his power - but he doesn't hit light either and the volume of punches from angles and getting out of the way before the return comes could see GGG look a bit silly.

I also don't think Brook has the suspect chin the likes of Khan has. For me, the smart money is on a Brook points win, which at 7/1-ish is silly odds.

I'm seeing a lot of comparisons with Jeff Lacy when he came over to fight Calzaghe. Nobody gave Calzaghe a chance and everyone expected Lacy to bang him out in short order - instead, Calzaghe boxed his head off due to the gulf in speed. I'm not saying a repeat is in the offering as I think GGG is better than Lacy ever was, but people aren't rating Golovkin on who he's fought; instead, they're assuming he can take his dominance up to truly elite level.

No way GGG struggles to get to Brook, Liam Smith was tagging him constantly in sparring.

Calzaghe was at a completely different level to Brook, not really a fair comparison.

Been no backwards chairs with Johnny Nelson for this, assuming it's down to Golovokin not speaking English?

Speaks great English mate.

Just saying there's been quite a few "untouchable" champions over the years who can get very unsettled fighting someone they haven't before in terms of their skillset. Calzaghe/Lacy is one that comes to mind, but even the likes of Chavez/Taylor. Not only that, GGG is getting on in years too and will slow down, making Brook's pace even more of a problem.

GGG has to hurt Brook early IMO.

Yes they've already said its down to his English.

"I want big crazy fight, I'm ready" doesn't go down well as an answer to every question for an hour

See Lucas Browne sued the WBA and settled out of court, now his ban is up he's been given his ranking back and is fighting for the title next against an opponent who isn't Chagaev.

Really strange situation all round, from him being totally clean 5 days before the fight to this.

I'm not a Brook fan but for him to take on this fight is good for him it's a massive fight one that he has needed for fans and critics with him not fighting anyone that special with lots of mandatory fights and looking like he doesn't want to share the ring with anyone decent. Big chance he could get sparked out but he is a big welter weight and more natural for him to be at that weight unlike Khan and does have a chance, he probably took this fight because khan fought Alvarez and wants to prove he is better than him if he can overcome GGG. I'm just hoping for a great fight and goes into later rounds and think after the bout "what a fight that was." Would be great if he does well maybe even win but also good if he gets sparked the funk out because we all love a knock out!

im a massive kel brook fan, have been since day one.

im a little bit surprised he's taken this fight, when he would of been better off making the big fights at welter weight first and proving himself a little bit more. garcia should have been the next fight or keith thurrman.

i know brook is a big welter weight, but to jump up a weight class at ELITE LEVEL is hard enough, to jump up TWO weight divisions, could be classed as reckless, especially when facing possibly the hardest punching middleweight out there.

im hoping it is a calculated risk by brook and that they have seen a chink in GGG's armour.

one thing for sure is the crowd will be totally behind brook, and as weve seen with many other british fighters, this alone can drive you on to an un expected victory.

really hope brook does the business, will be hell of a scalp

Not sure about that, he's hardly a top ticket seller. Most non casuals in the arena Saturday are there to see GGG no mistake.

I think he's calculated he's too slick for GGG, who is well over a decade away from his amateur days and has by and large just blasted out people who stand in front of him in the pro ranks.

That sounds like I don't rate GGG but I actually do - it's just that I really don't think this is anywhere near the foregone conclusion some think it is.

I think GGG has a bit more to him than some seem to be giving credit for. He is more than just a heavy handed hitter, he has fought decent 'boxers' before who will have had a game plan to 'box' and that hasn't worked out for any of them. I do think Brook is a better 'boxer' than any of his previous opponents so it will be interesting. Sadly I think GGG will eventuallyt wear him down and I think a knockout maybe as late as round 10.
