Boxing

another crack meth shrooms referee show there.
From the first round it was bad. Chisoras corner running in, should have been disqualified technically. Chisoras team helping up through the ropes was bad too. Pretty sure Chisoras team told the ref to hold off for a few seconds so they could help him up haha. Madness.

Enjoyable scrap
Why was there a fella at ringside counting knockdowns independent of the ref?

Right result just about but a close one
That’s always happened, it’s to help the ref keep count incase something happened. Prime example in the Fury vs Wilder first fight, the ref turned around to tell Wilder to go to a neutral corner. Technically according to Wilder it was more than a 10 second count and Fury got up after 13 seconds or something stupid to that.

To be fair, it's a 10 count, not a 10 second count. It's always at the referee's discretion. The Fury one was definitely longer than some, but there's been much longer 10 counts than it.

Callum Smith pulling out of the Morrell fight with an "injury". I said to my mate a few weeks ago I don't think the fight will happen because of a Smith pull out.

The reasons being the brothers have talked in the past about the belts getting fragmented and Callum will get upgraded from interim champ when they do. Then they was all upset when the mandatory was forced on him. He hasn't fought for 14 months and imo an inactive interim champ defeats the object anyway so I don't blame the WBO for putting a mandatory on him.

Paul Smith has been on Talksport this week being critical of the WBO for requesting proof of the injury as well.

The rest of the card stinks but Matchroom is going ahead with it. Good for the fighters to still get paid, but it stinks. Ben Whittaker to headline against someone that's only known for getting stopped by Lyndon Arthur, iirc he did put Arther on his arse in the fight. Hearn keeps talking about raising the profile of Whittaker but I'm not sure fighting this fella in a half empty arena will do that. Warren handing Hearn is arse on a plate with the UK shows this year.

Are the WBO really demanding proof of injury records? That’s interesting. Seen Smith was injured and fight had been pulled. I like that the WBO are asking for proof though. Good on them.

Totally agree about Matchroom, there British shows since leaving sky have been pretty poor. There whole stable isn’t great either at the minute, got some great international fighters but domestically haven’t been great. Warren always signs the best British fighters to be fair, difference is, they aren’t marketed great unlike matchroom fighters.

Ben Whittaker is a hard take, he doesn’t really get anyone excited because of his personality. Got great potential but he ain’t a likeable character for people to get behind imo.

Paul Smith was on his Talksport show saying they've asked for proof and he wasn't happy about it. If he's injured and can prove it fair enough, but I really didn't expect this fight to happen after everything they've said since beating Buatsi and no one here knows Morrell so the risk and reward factor isn't in Callum's favour and he's someone that's always been happy to sit it out to wait for a big fight. 6 fights in 6 years is crazy, and 3 of them was tick over fights.

He’s been managed poorly Callum Smith imo. Seems like he’s satisfied with his career and just wants the most money now. Can’t blame him for that though.

Was the card in Liverpool sold out?

Not the best resume but I think he got about £12m from the Super Series. Not bad for 3 fights against Skoglund, a kickboxer and an injured Groves

It wasn't sold out but no idea how well tickets was going. Loads of empty seats for Ball v Figueroa and that was a better card.
