Boxing

Been a bit of a mad couple of hours in boxing. Benn jumps ship after all the talk between Hearn and Dana White. Some boss move from Dana White to take Benn away from match room. You’d imagine those at match room are furious with Benn after everything they did for him. Suppose it’s hard to turn down £10million for a one fight deal though. You’d imagine with the rumours that Zuffa Boxing are about to announce a partnership with sky to broadcast there fights, Benn will be there main man and box office star. They’ve gotta match him perfectly in the next few fights.

Mayweather is coming out of retirement after his exhibition with Tyson. Guess the rumours are true that he’s so skint that he needs to fight again. My guess, he has a couple of tune ups then Mayweather vs Crawford will be made in a massive money making fight.

Benn needs to be careful.

So far as out of retirement types. How many make it back anything like what they were? And of them, how many make it out again scot free? I don't especially like mayweather, in fact I think he's a cock, but how's he burned through a fortune in about 8 years?

He’s a weird one Benn, he’s great on the eye but does he have the skill to beat some of the fighters he’s been calling out? Be hard for him his style might help. Is he box office? Yes. Will he become a massive star? Probably but to put all your hopes on him to be the face of British boxing, I dunno about that.

They reckon Mayweather earned over a billion in his career but now struggling so bad that he as to fight. He’s about to turn 49 years of age soon. His style of fighting relies on instinct and reflexes, will he struggle with that at his age. Mayweather is the poster boy for someone who needed help and therapy. The money he’s spent on cars, jewellery and god knows what else just to prove he’s so rich he’s better than you in every department is someone with real insecurities. That footage of him the other month, where he is getting money out to count at a basketball game is so sad. He’s made over a billion at playing the bad boy but at one point, you’ve gotta grow up.

At one point, Mayweather purchased about 8 Bugattis, 3 McClarens and other expensive cars just so they could sit in his garage. When you’re blowing hundreds of millions on stuff that has no re-sale value and bringing in no money. It catches up with you. Everyone dreams of financial freedom, 99% of people don’t get it, if you achieve financial freedom and aren’t humble about it, then it comes back and burns you.

VW lost money on the veyron, they were selling (iirc) for about £350-£400k, they're going for £1.5M+ now. He won't have got one but the McClaren F1 is worth at least 10 times original price now. Cars can be a fine investment. It's keeping them and maintaining them. Holyfield earned well, very well in fact, but his mansion (specifically the yearly value tax on it) eventually sank him. Whilst he was earning millions it could be kept, but he eventually sold it to some music mogul/exec.
Benn has a few problems, he can't punch as hard as his old man did, and he doesn't have Nigel's supernatural powers of recovery. He'll end up biting off more than he can chew, and the way supermen* fighters are being produced now, it's not as level a playing field as they'd like it to look.

rj jr eventually went a few steps to far. a few divisions are in flux, Usyk is wrapping up, Alvarez aint got much left, Crawford is done? The names we've relied on are finishing up. Maybe the Olympics will be the intro to a new generation.

Can't stand Benn and he will get smashed as soon as he fights a live body. British champ Conah Walker would ice him. That said this is hilarious. Hearn is a snake and him crying about loyalty is funny as fk. How many fighters has he dropped after bigging up as the next big thing when he realised they wasn't. I bet he regrets being front and centre of Benn's failed drugs test to shill for him now.
I never bother listening to Frank Smith, but currently listening to him crying and bad mouthing Benn now

To be honest, I’m not into cars nor do I know anything about them. But to go out buy all the cars he did is just stupid. Why do you need 60 brand new cars at once? Why do you need to show people you’ve just gone out and bought 60 cars at once? He’s been blowing money as a way to say look at me, it’s caught up with him now he’s gotta fight again. Coming back for money doesn’t normally end well for fighters, it damages them physically and mentally. We’ve seen it far to many times. It’s sad.

Holyfields mansion was costing him around $10 million a year on up keep end taxes it was believed. The music executive that bought it, is Rick Ross. He’s got money coming in through loads of fast food chains. Crazy how people have gotta live beyond there means.

Benn going up in weight, will have an impact on him coming back to fight at 147. Be interesting to see who they match up with him because he’s gonna need a few cans to knock over.

Zuffa have signed Andy Ruiz lately too haha. They’ve got Jai Opetai and Conor Benn from match room and rumoured to be getting few big names. Gonna be interesting to see how it develops and who they go and get.

Nail on head. Bet Eddie feels like a right mug backing him during those failed tests. Wonder if Bellew says he should have been banned now?

Can’t blame Benn for getting £10mil for a fight. Sets his kids and future generations up for life. Good on him getting money. This whole I want the WBC belt and stuff goes to show, it’s the prize that really matters over the belts.

That old saying, if you want loyalty, buy a dog is the most truest statement in Boxing.

Oh you mentioned the olympics, thought it wasn’t been allowed to happen at the next one? Maybe changed there mind but at one point wasn’t gonna be boxing at the one in LA.

I hope Jai can get a decent fight soon, such a talented fighter but he's fought a bunch of tomato cans the last few years

You'd have to question his decision to join a promotion with no big Cruisers on their roster, who've said they won't recognise or pay fees to the recognised sanctioning bodies if he wants the big fights.

Glanton will probably be the latest oppo hes hospitalised when they fight.

Sadly, the cruiserweight division isn’t the best and a lot of the fighters aren’t marketable. He’s not big enough nor skillful enough to go up to heavyweight for good match ups. Obviously him beating Gassiev is the biggest name in the division but he was past his best.
