Boxing

That was cain( i think) throwing a kick.
They thought it was bad form celebrating in that corner while ball was out.

It is normally fairly common to calm the celebrations a bit when someone could be badly hurt but emotions run high in situations like that. They've been training together for years.

Will be interesting to see what Ball does next. His 3 defenses were all a bit below world level which didn't help him tonight.

Might need a rest last two fights he seems to have lost a bit of a spark.
Suppose with his style you cant be at it every fight.
Thought he boxed well tonight.
Till the end.
I like him but said today I thought it might be a hard night tonight.
Hope he comes again.

needs more discipline with his covering right hand. needs more ring brains to realise to take the knee and buy some running time.

I realise this isn't easy when you've swallowed a big knuckle sandwich.

Bit confused why he isn't allowed to celebrate when he knows he has won. They wouldn't have known necessarily how bad he was.
They normally just go to there corner out of respect
You never know how badly the other boxer is hurt .
Start the celebrations when he is up.
Wouldn't look good if he was fatally injured and people were bouncing around the ring.
Think the problem was some of there people went over towards Balls corner celebrating,
That's why people lost it with them.
He said sorry , we were just excited didn't mean to be disrespectful , in the ring interview, so he knew why they got that reaction , even if it wasn't deliberate.

Ball has been overhyped and he was never going to hold on to that belt for long. Despite what he was saying, Warren knew this and that's why he's been trying to brass him off to fight Inoue.

On the fight itself, it was a close fight until the stoppage. I had Figueroa slightly ahead but I don't think anyone could complain if the judges had it 1 or 2 rounds to either fighter. Shocking refereeing not stopping the fight when Ball was face down after the first knock down. I can see both side of what happened with the camps at the end, but apart from the one cornerman flying over the top ropes I don't think it was too excessive as they was caught up in the moment when their B side fighter stopped the champion away from home.

More dodgy refereeing in the Cain fight, giving Cain every chance in the 8th but couldn't wait to stop the away fighter in the 9th. Taking nothing away from Cain though I thought he was done and could only see it going one way after the 8th.

Looking forward to seeing more Jack Turner who looks like a killer at Super Fly, but can box as well. Bam is the man at that weight but can see him moving up soon, could be great timing for Turner.

Figueroa is a former 2 belt holder? B fighter? I had it nearly equal, Ball better work close, Figueroa scoring more from distance. Ball just couldn't join enough work up in the pocket to tell, was close a few times. As they tired they slowed down a bit but I didn't see that crunching left coming, tbf neither did Ball. Think the ref carried on only 'cos it was a title fight, otherwise it was a wave off. The win surprised their corner as much as anything. Can see it being made again. Missed the Cain bout.

He was without doubt the B side fighter. Away fighter, less of the purse, everything against him (ref, what happened at the weigh in, what happened with the hands being wrapped), wasn't the main attraction, I expected a close fight but the majority of people expected a Ball win. His trainer Manny Robles has spoken many times about them being the B side. I know what you're saying but I think you've slightly misunderstood the term in a boxing sense.

Not sure it will happen again, not in the short term anyway. Mandatory fight so there's no rematch clause. There's more lucrative fights for Figueroa over the pond with the other 3 belt holders in the division also being American and there's the Mexican link with Nery, although Figueroa has already iced him. I think Ball will have one or 2 fights to get his confidence back and I'd like to see him in with Liam Davies or Nathaniel Collins, could be great domestic dust ups with maybe a final eliminator on the line.

I read it as 'B side' as in his team he was second choice boxer.

It seems you meant he was the slight underdog in the bout as the challenger and away fighter (and bookies against but not by loads).

Surprised by the no rematch clause. Ball needs heavier hands and a better defence. Heart is willing and will gladly take a shot to get one off, but those type of fighters burn out quickest.

Not just slight underdog, but all the shenanigans he was up against all week as well.

Rematch clauses are rare for mandatory title fights. Only the likes of Joshua, Canelo, Mayweather, Katie Taylor etc put them in as champions in mandatory defences because they're the moneymen/women and can sweeten the deal and come to an arrangement with the challenger with extra £££. I think they stink in mandatory defences tbh because it means the fighter that's earned their opportunity has to beat the champion twice. I understand them in voluntary defences when the champion has gave someone the opportunity. In my opinion, they should only happen when the fans demand them, Froch Groves didn't have a rematch clause for example, but Froch had to give him one because the fans was up in arms demanding it after Foster's stoppage. We don't need to see them in decisive wins, like the upcoming rematch with Simpson and Williamson, only happening because of a rematch clause but nobody outside of Barnsley wants to see it.

Agree on your comments on Ball, as I alluded to earlier, he was never what his promoters/broadcasters/local fans made him out to be. If he wants to be a world champ again he either needs to make big improvement or needs the right opponent.
