Boxing day derbies

Suffice to say with it being 2014 next year there will be a lot of attention given to the WW1 centenary, and no doubt the football match played on Christmas day between the two sides.

Wonder if the FA will do something nice and make the annual boxing day fixtures derby matches whenever possible?

Would we call a temporary truce to rivalry with the other lot if such a thing happened?

And play in Stanely Park, half between the two grounds?

My favourite boxing day game was 3-4 against the mancs. They went 3-0 up at half time, with Saha scoring a clearly offside goal (until we saw it on MOTD later), then Rooney came on at half time and he terrorised Silvestre and Naismith, Weir and one other scored for us. As we pushed for the winner, they broke down the other end and Van Nistelroy killed the game.

The "other" was Kilbane. Remember that game because the bloke next to me in the PE knocked himself out falling over the seats when we got back to 3-3.

I was convinced Ferguson was going to score the winner though.

No way was that Boxing Day. Definitely around feb/march time that one.

I've got vague memories of losing 4-1 to them one Boxing Day but might be getting that wrong?

Don't agree with politicising football in this sort of way, however noble it may be.

Random fixtures for me.

Suffice to say, I'm not advocating this for every boxing day as I appreciate there are commercial issues at play here, just this one as it's the centenary of it happening in WW1.

Didnt realise that. But would explain why my lads Christmas play was all about WWI!! ffs, thick sometimes me.

So in that context, I reckon it should have been arranged. Never mind.

great idea bruce.

though i cant see why you would want to remember the start of ww1 in such a (fun) way. the end of ww1 defo but the start hmmm.
