2025/26 Beto

I hope Beto isn't out for next week, but,if he is, we have to come up with a replacement that isn't Barry.
Yet it will be Barry who plays, because David Moyes thought it was wise to spend £30 million on left backs that aren't good enough for him and central midfielders who clearly weren't getting on over Garner or Gueye, instead of bringing in a better striker or a third option.

Personally, I'd play George up top before Barry, he doesn't seem to be be interested

Right now only a handful of players have scored more than Beto. To bench Beto, you would need to sign one of the 20 or so players who have one or more goals greater than him for that decision to be helpful for the squad.
He’s not a good enough player, his all round game isn’t good enough. We’re needing a better centre forward, end of. Too many moves breakdown, too many balls get turned over etc.

No question he’s not good enough to be starting for a team wanting to qualify for Europe. Bench/squad player fine.

All I’m saying is that Beto is closer to the top of the list of goals scored this season in the PL than he is to the bottom.

We say the PL typically produces the best players and that players from other leagues need to become “PL-ready”.

Well, Beto is in the PL and is near the top of the leaderboard in goals scored in what is considered the best league in the world. Unless my logic is miles off, that would make him one of the best scorers in the world.

To me, it’s very simple. You sell someone or bench them if and only if the new person is better. Who exactly is that right now and who is available? Good clubs don’t sell top goal scorers. We’re certainly in no position to do that.

Bring in another scorer like Beto and now we’re talking. I don’t care that he scuffed a shot today. The RS launched several over the bar today, off by miles. And they cost £100M. We micro study our players. Tons of guys out there on top teams blowing sitters.

To be fair I think the game has expanded to where the strikers often function as more than a goalscorer. Having said that, had we been playing more direct all season Beto might literally be very close to the top. He scores goals when you play to his strengths. It's fine if you want him to do more but people are lying to themselves when they say he is not a goalscorer. He is not a target man or a wing/striker hybrid which is why he struggled when we were geared more towards possession.

I agree, mate. Other than very few players does someone excel at all facets of their game. When we play to Beto’s strengths, he gets consistent results. Hoofball never cut it.

I think we have to extend Beto's contract, sell Barry for whatever we can get and add it to our money to bring in a first choice striker. Barry is not going to make it here, he may have some ability, but, he doesn't have the attitude to be an Everton no.9. he just doesn't seem to be arsed. Konate and Van Dyke both looked much relieved men when Beto had to go off.
