2024/25 Beto

In the main, the keeper just guesses.
Not necessarily. If you know which direction the player is going (Beto tends to go right) you can put him off of his game which the keeper did. He does not look comfortable using his left foot yet or driving around the keeper which is something he should work on. Wouldn't hurt to develop a little curl for when the keeper is out of position. I think he had a scouting report on Beto and knew what he was doing.

Watching the highlights, all three are poor. He gave the ball away multiple times which resulted in breakaways and his hold up play was inconsistent.

There has been huge improvement with his back to goal and maybe last night wasn’t his night but if DCL had missed those three, he would be getting destroyed on here and all over the internet.

First one he tried to go around the keeper and had no room to do so. Second he hit it at the keeper. Third he went for top corner instead of hard and low. None seemed like worldie saves.

He had a few nice touches and refs give him nothing when he is held but we all know we need a striker who can play the channels, finish but also hold the ball up.

Most encouraging thing is the through balls and that he is always there for them. He can be a little static at times.

Beto's in credit. He's been slotting for fun, so he's allowed a bad night. The difference with DCL is he doesn't slot for fun - at all anymore. So when he misses similar chances, there is no recent history of clinical finishing when put through to fall back on.

Obviously, Beto needs to bounce back now. Whether he does or doesn't will determine whether he has a genuine future here beyond the summer or whether he joins DCL on the scrapheap.

DCL would be getting destroyed if his missed those chances because he would more than likely have been on a 10 game run or more without scoring running up to last night. I thought Beto held the ball up well last night and his link up play with Alcaraz was really good too, and hopefully will get even better the more time they play together. He missed the three good chances but has built a bit of credit over the last few weeks for folks to put it down to a bad day at the office. One thing for sure he`ll be rightly fired up for Wolves and be looking to make up for those missed opportunities.

I honestly think in hindsight there was more positives than negatives for Beto in that game. He is really quick and that must be a nightmare for defenders. First chance was a poor decision. 2nd chance he's hit it similar to how he did against Palace but just didn't happen for him. Third chance looked like it was going top corner but keeper was inspired.
Should have slotted at least two of them. Don’t forget the fumble in front of the keeper even before he messed those ones up.

He played pretty well just didn't take his chances. It happens it's football.

No one should be jumping on his back at all.

He had a poor game my arse. He missed chances that he should have made. If he made even one he is MOTM by far.
Of course he had a poor game,
He’s a striker his job is to score goals, he got rightly praised for 5 in 4.
If Pickford made 3 world class saves, then threw 2 into the net, would you say he had a great game ?

Bro. I don't get it. He played well. He should have scored the chances and didn't. He has been on a firing spree recently. He was bound to miss at some point. How anyone could walk away from that and think he played poorly apart from the misses is beyond me. And he did well to create those chances for himself. If it was Ndiaye we would say he bossed the game.
He didn’t create the
Chances himself lol, a team mate passed the ball in front of him

Didn't DCL score before getting injured last time out?

I get the justified criticism DCL's received but Moyes will 100% get more out of him than Dyche ever did as we clearly play to striker's strengths and he'll also go on scoring runs. However, on merit, Beto should be starting even if DCL was fit, he's just proper in form currently.

Truth is we don't know if both won't go cold for months, which is what the problem is. They're both prone to inconsistencies or dry spells, where if you miss 1 your head goes; Beto seems to be better at having the "miss one, go again" mentality at least, so the mentality is there, the skill sort of backs it up, which is great to see.

I think what people are saying is that for all 3 chances he got the ball a long way out and used excellent pace and guile to get into the position to create the one on ones. Not every striker would have been able to do that, they would have mistouched it along the way and been caught up by a defender or something. That's where the praise is coming from because he was very direct and did very well to get into them positions on all 3 occasions.
