Best way to spend away day at Newcastle

Go to Sunderland
An even more grim place, albeit populated by more amicable folk. Last time we went to Newcastle, we left to get there very early and found some decent pubs.

The closer it came to kick off, the people who had been fairly okay with us soon began to turn into idiots and were met with with their idiot friends.

We’re arriving about 10.30 tomorrow by train so will be just be loitering around pubs around the station for a while, Chuck our gear in the hotel before the game, then make our way the ground. Not really much to see in Newcastle mate so best to just drink through the experience and, if you’re lucky, end up with some fat kebab monster at the end of the night.

Hi toffees,

I am from Australia and will be seeing Everton for the first time in my life tomorrow at Newcastle and I’m beyond excited. I was wondering if I could get any advice/tips to get the best experience out of the day. For example is there any “blue” pubs or meeting points where our fans get together before and or after the game?

Any help would be appreciated.

Most blues drink close to the station. 5 mins from the ground. Last year we drank .in a few pubs near the university also 5 mins from the ground. Had no colours, pubs were packed with Geordies and we had no problems at all Had a few good nights in Newcastle. Have you got tickets for the Everton section? If not just be careful if sitting with the Geordies but can say that for any ground

The friendliest city I've been to in the UK, but sadly football turns them into the worst people imaginable.

If football didn't exist Newcastle would be great.

Having been to Newcastle many times mate, can I safely say that the city centre is an absolute toilet, populated by fat aggressive mutants, both male and female.

The only place I`d even dream of going to is Jesmond - it`s as upmarket as you are going to get in Newcastle.

Loads of bars and restaurants and the chances are you won`t get your face ripped off for not coming from Newcastle.

There`s a wonderful pub at the back of the main drag in Jesmond ( Osbourne Rd ) called - The Collingwood Arms.

It`s a beautiful old pub, populated by non aggressive NORMAL people, serves wonderful cask ale and lagers, plus they do gorgeous, well priced food.

I speak from experience !!!!

Mainly because Jesmond is posh student land.

I've only had very good experiences of visiting Newcastle. I prefer it when we play them midweek as is a good excuse for an overnight stop. Plenty of places to drink. Id recommend the Bodega on Westgate Rd. Usually plenty of Evertonians in there but advise against wearing colours.

Quayside is nice for a walk around. If you’re going for a few pints after the game and want away from the football crowd I’d go to the ouseburn areas. Some nice friendly bars down there.
Baltic viewing area is a nice way to see the city. If you’re eating, I’d advise to get a bit out the city. Loads of overpriced chains. Kamal in the west end is the best Indian restaurant for miles. BYOB also.

If football didnt exist then that city would literally have nothing to give them something to look forward to
