I remember the media at the time making out that he'd lost the plot and was talking gibberish. I guess the irony was lost on them.
That's because most in the media are dim witted public school boys and girls who are handed a cushy job of just writing about what they see and being paid a surprising amount for a very basic skill.

So long as they make the establishment look good, they have to do little else.

"go out and equalise before they score!"

Don't know who said it first, but I've confused many a school team by repeating such wisdom.

I had a mate who thought he was much better than he was, like most of us. He kept on at me to get the team I was playing for to sign him, eventually I gave in and got him a game for the third team. When all the teams got home on Saturday evening I asked the thirds manager how he had done. He knew his guy was my mate so he was as diplomatic as he could be and he said "If I have ever seen a worse player I forget who he is". I will never forget that.
A team I played for also had a saying about players who were a bit timid, when I first went to them and replaced a guy in the first team I asked why I was replacing him and was told "he is too cowld". That is Northern Irish for "cold". If you were cowld you wene not prepared to stand up for yourself. I had hoped they would say I was a better player.
