Should we see the positives in Benitez work at Everton?

As we await the announcement of our new manager, Frank Lampard, the rumours circulating across media are that his arrival will bring big changes. Old coaching guard, particularly Ferguson, look likely to depart, a new approach to transfers with reports of using connection to Chelsea's youth set up and a suggestion that Frank will want significant say in transfers.

This seems to have coincided with the conclusions, or at least initial findings, of the clubs strategic review, something many have welcomed for some time (albeit in slightly less turbulent circumstances) and gives rise to positivity of a levelling up of the club.

None of this would be possible without the dirty, difficult job done by Benitez. Routing out the DoF, making tough decisions regarding our recruitment, shining a light on our coaching, medical department and club standards.

Might we in time, reflect on the work Benitez did and realise that in spite of initial results, he was a necessary part of the transformation of the club - albeit in its infancy.

As his fellow countryman Picasso said "every act of creation is first an act of destruction" and the necessary destruction of Benitez will allow our new manager to build Everton back better.

It might be too early to say "congratulations Rafael" but maybe we could start with "thank you"

Reflect on this.

If we had avoided defeat to Norwich the bugger would still be here.

His immediate legacy is the re-habilatation of Marcel Brands in the eyes of many on here…including me.

Like most everone else, I thought Brands was a fake.

But the Benitez fiasco has shown him to be more sinned against than sinning and that a lot of these deals were concluded above his head.

I think football wise his appointment was an absolute disaster
Terrible footy, awful tactics and set ups. Yes marred by Injuries and financial constraints, but no still awful awful stuff with no clear direction.
I definitely won't miss that.

Won't miss how divisive of a figure he was with the fans or with the players. No room for such stubborn man management.

But the only positive is that he shook the tree and all the bad coconuts seem to have either fallen out or have needed to have long hard look at themselves.
Hopefully his legacy will be that he began to drain the swamp at Everton
And not well.... You know.... Relegation

If you put Demarai Gray to one side, there's really only one positive you can take from the whole Benitez thing and that's that he effectively torched the place.

We've known for a while that things were rotten.

It's an unexpected byproduct of the saga, but at least the chaos of the regime has given us the opportunity to restructure and take stock.

Don't get me wrong, we might well mess it all up, but at least the opportunity has arisen
