TBF giving them territory they already control (especially Crimea which was only Ukrainian in very dodgy and relatively recent circumstances) is probably the way out of this that all parties (including the Ukrainians) can accept.

It even makes their membership of NATO much more likely (as there will be no more border disputes / ongoing conflicts).

Indeed…I was fully supportive of Russia taking back the Crimea at the time. I still think though that even if formally agreed to have what they hold, Russia will want to push further in…..
