Beer, revisited

Love the Champagne.

I like microbrews and the like as much as the next guy, but few things beat PBR or High Life for drinking on a summer Friday night in your backyard in the southern heat.

Yep, Duval agrees down here. You have to use the bottle to help you wipe sweat off your forehead. Don't check the ribs in the smoker, they're OK.

Football of all kinds very soon. Life is good.

Haven't tried Pepe Nero, never seen it on my travels, and these Goose Island beers have not been in Alberta before. The Sofie is the better of the two, IMO, as I prefer a saison/farmhouse over a Belgian Pale Ale, and the white wine character of the Sofie is delicious.

Haha. More and more bigger British companies making "American" style beers.

Fullers makes a Pale Ale with a bunch of NW US hops (Willamette, Cascade, Chinook & Liberty)... Wild River or something. Good effort, but they miss the boat on what American Pale Ales - specifically from the region they got their hops - are about.

Basically it was the Everton 2013-2014 of beer here... Excited as all hell, blue label, great expectations, fell short of what I'd hoped (Dales Pale Ale/Mirror Pond style pale ale = Champs League hopes), but is still the best around. Basically 5th and Euroleague of beer.

Ace this. I've always wanted to give this a go. How much?

£65, bought it off Home Brew Online on ebay.

Quite a few things come with the kit, and as I'm a complete newbie had to go through the instructions and look at some forums etc today. Loads of helpful stuff out there. Planning to start the actual brewing at some point tomorrow!
