Beer, revisited

My favorite breweries are Ommegang, Victory, and The Duck Rabbit. Ommegang throws a great Octoberfest.

Duck Rabbit has very limited distribution but is a labor of love, started by a Philosophy Professor. The Duck-Rabbit illustration is from a book by Wittgenstein.

Is Ommegang in Cooperstown, NY? Saw a lot of their stuff last week when I was up there

Like @RaleighBlue says, get some. It has never disappointed me, but they Three Philosphers is outstanding.

It is. And Ommegang is delightful. Always try not to drink it when I'm at places like the Flying Saucer (@SerenityNigh) because I want to sample new things, but I always end up getting at least one Three Philosopher's.

I always tell myself I'll be adventurous, but as I visit less frequently, I usually want "safe" picks. Last time I tried St Bernardus for the first time--it gets added to my list of favorites. Bought a few new bottles this week to try at home, grabbed some Cuvee des Jacobins and it was so sour (and I like a sour ale) that I can only assume it went bad in the bottle. It tasted of three-day-old merlot. I'm hesitant to open the 2nd bottle. Also picked up some Old Speckled Hen, which is not really adventuresome but really nice.

It's a Flanders Red, that's how it's supposed to taste. Try having it cold from the fridge and then drink it slow so it gradually warms up; it may get you used to the flavour profile.

I've had sours before of various sorts, but never have these taste like this: Monk's Cafe, Liefman's Goudenband, Bourgogne des Flandres, Strubbe's Flemish Red Grand Cru, and one or two more I can't seem to remember the name of. All of these were sour and pleasant. Nothing like the bottle of Jacobins I had a few days ago.

It may be just more than I'm willing to handle. All the sours I've had have that wine flavor, but this one had the acetic acid taste of a bottle of wine that's been open a few days; it was lemon pucker sour, not at all pleasant.
