Beer, revisited

Next up:
Fortnight Brewing Company. This one is new to me, stumbled into them thanks to my father in law a few weeks back. They're an English Style pub/brewery located in Cary, NC. There English Ale is very good (and makes for a hell of a shandy after working outside all morning). The one time I've been to the pub we just ordered a few growlers as it was super busy.

Looking forward to trying the rest of their lineup.

Nothing exciting but I've got 1 can of Krombacher and 1 can of Bitburger waiting for me at home. Looking forward to them after a long week.

And Lonerider.

Never been to the brewery for LoneRider Brewing Company, but they seem to be a pretty big deal down here these days. The beer is available at pretty much any respectable bar or shopping market that sell beer. I am found of Shotgun Betty - their Hefeweizen. Hefe's are the first beer that got me into beer. I'd had beer before Hefe's and thought it was awful. Hefe showed me the light and began my journey to the light of barley and hops.

Shotgun Betty is by no means a great Hefe. But it is a very good Hefe. It's one of those default beers, ya' know? When you're at a bar and don't know what you want, and nothing new is on tap, and nothing amazing (Devil's Tramping Ground) is on tap, this is one of the one's I'll pick.

They have a Brown Ale (Sweet Josie), and a Pale Ale (Peacemaker) as well. I'm not the biggest fan of Brown Ale's, and the Pale Ale is fairly uninspired. But Shotgun Betty is just good American fun.

@RaleighBlue there's no shortage of good bars, but The Flying Saucer is far and away my favorite. Just saw they have a Raleigh location--if you've not tried it out I recommend you take a look. Some locations (Ft Worth, Austin) are better than others (Little Rock), but I expect the Raleigh joint is nice.
I've been there. Couple of friends of mine have plates there. We also have a Tyler's Taproom - which appears to be a Triangle place, but they have a similar setup - I.E. motherloads of beer.

The Saucer is one of those places we take people who are visiting Raleigh for business. I don't get downtown that often, honestly, but the Saucer is definitely ace.

dreading the move a month from now as beer in South America apparently is not so mediocre. been drinking a bit too much lately, reducing stress by consuming mass quantities of craft beer as well as the last vestiges of my final batch of home brew.

Monkey Knife Fight was disappointing given the name.

Stone's Go To Session IPA was good for tailgating FC Tucson matches in 90+ degree heat. (36c)

Deschuttes Fresh Squeezed is still awesome.

Boom. New favourite thread!

Good to see some favourites represented and plenty of new ones to go on the 'must try' list courtesy of you lads over the pond.

Enjoying a bottle of this slick little number at the moment:

Well recommended if you see one. Then tomorrow I'm gonna be like a pig in filth. Off to Grillstock, which is a BBQ/Grill and Music festival down on Bristol harbourside, Burgers, Chilli cook-offs, Pulled Pork.. all that good stuff. And Brooklyn are over running the bar and one of the music stages (http://grillstock.co.uk/brooklyn-bars). This time tomorrow I'll be full to burstin' with beer and red meat and getting ready to stick 'em up punk for the The Fun Lovin' Criminals.

What are SA home/craft brew laws? How much free time do you have to start a side job (on top of whatever you'll already be doing)?

Love trying new American labels. Often they're the same styles/flavors from region to region, but usually pretty high quality. If you haven't had these yet, Abita (So. Louisiana) and St Arnold (Houston) are very good regional beers.

no clue what the laws are, but not at all likely to do any home brew there. not sure how easy it would be to order all the malts, hops, etc needed. not that we'd have the space as our apartment is likely to be tiny.

after this was written, it seems there is a craft brewery, Sajonia.

I would recommend Cambridge beer festival. Went a couple of weeks ago. Great selection of ales, as well as some decent foreign lagers, and some proper ciders and mead. Good day out.
