Beer, revisited

I'm a big fan of the Belgian Lambics, Lindemans' Kriek is great for an alternative taste, due to the cherries.

Liefmans Fruitesse on the rocks is also top on a hot day. Its a mix of beer and Strawberries, Raspberries, Black Cherries, Elderberries and Blueberries.

As for the more traditional tastes, another Belgian beer, called Rodenbach is top of my list. Its a sour beer, left to age over time in oak barrels. I have a few bottles left that I'm loathe to drink knowing after them I will have no more!

As for a Pilsener, then I go for the Flensburger, from Northern Germany. It continues to be run by members of the original founding families and isn't part of a big brewing conglomerate, which is ace in my view, plus it tastes fantastic! Again though I can't seem to find it here much anymore.

I find Rodenbach too sweet, for my liking. Sure, it's got some sourness and a vinegar like quality, but it just comes across as too sweet. More a fan of Oud Beersel & Drie Fontenein, and of course Cantillon.

Understand, its an acquired taste. I do like the sweeter beers, along with the more traditional too. The Oerbier from the De Dolle Brewery is also a bit sweet, don't know if you have ever tried it. Its cloudy, which puts many people off, but it just is because of the spring water used and also that is refermented in the bottle.

I never tried any of the ones you mentioned, but I think Cantillon is available in one of the beer houses I occasionally go to. Will be on my list definitely!

You sound like you have a taste for the Belgian stuff.

Have you ever tried Barbar? Had the Bock version there weekend before last, was quite impressed.

Oh, I do like Rodenbach it's just not my go to for sour, Flemish red, oude brun style ales.

Haven't tried, or heard of Barbar...although I did used to watch his cartoon's as a kid ;)

I like some Belgian beers, mainly Dubbels, Quads & dark strong ales. The fruity, spicy flavours of Tripels puts me off slightly, and they also tend to be too carbonated.

Three Philosophers from Ommegang. It's so, so good.

My plan is a Belgian per day until Rom signs, but the local shop is low on good Belgians so I hope he signs soon.

@SerenityNigh , here's the Belgian squad mate!

Westmallen Trappiste with the cream label. Wonderful brew.

I was sat in my back garden yesterday, Bob Marley on the stereo, lad playing in the paddling pool, BBQ heating up, drinking Original Red Stripe, Jamaican brew not the English brewed. Seriously could of been on holiday.

Finished my evening on Rocheforte 10. A beautiful, dark smooth Belgian Ale

Nice.

I'm surrounded by ale, got Delirium Tremens, Leffe, Frulli, Blue Moon and Grolsch Blonde on tap, plus 6 cask ales, pig in filth here.
