Yeah i know the place well. Love the section at the top of the stairs to the right with all the IPAs. Ace shop.

There's a place south end of Burnage (Kingsleigh Rd) called the beer shop that is like a pub in a small retail unit - looks like a sandwich shop or something. Inside they have 3 or 4 real ales on tap, plus loads of imported bottled ales.
It's a weird sort of set-up - pubs are closing left and right so I can see the idea of opening a small place with minimal overhead and great ale. On the other hand, who wants to sit down for a session in a brightly lit, pokey retail unit in a quiet surburb of Manchester? It's still going AFAIK, so good luck to them.
The big bottles of Delirium, as well as Piraat and Gulden BRAAAAAK, Chimay's go for around $12 each. It's a rare purchase for me given a sixer of a quality craft beer will go for a couple bucks less.

Yeah, Inn. I also suggest the Kazimier Garden on Seel Street! The White Star on Matthew St is a bit hit and miss, but worth a visit anyway too.
Have never tried Hoegaarden, will have to get one soon. The other looks really nice too.
Tonight had Weihenstephaner Kristal Weissbier. I don't know that I have words to describe it yet, but it may be the perfect weissbier, and I'm quite partial to Franziskaner myself.

Made the acquaintance of these fine craft beers over a braai this afternoon.
The middle one is a local lager from the Cape and is probably my favourite of the three. The others are from Brewers & Union in Bavaria. Do you get B&U in the UK?
The Beast is an excellent bock. The other is a lager that needs a touch more hops - it goes down ridiculously easily. Not good for the head or the pocket!

I'm in a bad shape, as the local outlets are out of Ommegang and Unibroue, two NA brewers with the finest product I've tasted. But I picked up some Sam Adams "Longshot," which is a combo of their home-brew contest winners. I have a strong admiration for Sam Adams and their contribution to the industry in NA, so I'll try almost anything they sell (and most of it is very good).
The first bottle was a Gratzer, which I've never seen before. The wheat is oak-smoked and no doubt that's the flavor in the bottle. Quite an interesting flavor, but I may not visit this again.
The second was a Pineapple IPA. I'm really not a fan of IPAs (although there are some highly regarded brews I've not yet sampled in this style), but this was a remarkable blend. It reminds me of Shiner's Ruby Redbird.
The first bottle was a Gratzer, which I've never seen before. The wheat is oak-smoked and no doubt that's the flavor in the bottle. Quite an interesting flavor, but I may not visit this again.

Nothing like a nice chilled bottle of Badger's Tanglefoot

Wonderful. I like beer as well. Quite so. I've become a bit of a local beer snob, though, mostly because I like giving my money to local brewers, not because it's particularly better (although it's very good), so allow me to pitch in with some North Carolina brews (ideally from the Triangle, but I buy from Asheville and Brevard as well).
First things first, my local:
Aviator Brewing Company - started by a pilot in his hanger, now has a taphouse, a smokehouse, and a separate brewery. My personal favorite is:
The Devil's Tramping Ground Belgian Tripel. It's a solid Tripel. Floral and sweet, utterly delicious, but I won't be biased and say it's the best Tripel I've had. One of my favorites though. Alongside St. Bernardus. I put it above the New Belgium Trippel.
The also have a very solid IPA (Hogwild), and a good wheat beer (the Mad Beach). Their seasonals are also quite nice. They make a number of other beers, but I always fall back to the Tripel. They had a wonderful Belgian Ale at the taphouse - got a growler of it, but they don't bottle it, which is a bit of a letdown. It may have just been an experiment though.
