Beer, revisited

I think British beer has been the best it has been for ages tbh. I think the price rises as in a way done this, as it's got rid of a lot of the crapper breweries and it's stopped some of the krazy beers that weren't really needed

And yes I know it's bad for jobs and publicans before I get attacked 🫣
I actually think there's more decent pubs now than there has been for a long time now, too, or at least there is in Liverpool.

Last week, I had some colleagues up from London; they were genuinely amazed with the quality of pubs in such a short walk from each other.

We went to the Queen of Hope St, The White Hart, Ye Cracke, The Bridewell, The Denbigh, The Ship and Ye Hole in the Wall over two nights...

... and I could have gone to many others.

Many newer ones seem to be going with less choice/taps but better quality too which will help, especially with cask

Is Queen of Hope street a new pub? When I lived (or just stayed for an extended period) in Liverpool, I stayed at the University apartments on Myrtle street and used to always walk down that way (2014/2015) and don't remember that one. The photos on their website look nice.

It’s a few years old now, so yes relatively new. The bar was built when the flats above were made.

While I do love the microbrewery scene, you just can't beat some of the more traditional breweries in terms of architecture.

This is the Pabst Building in Milwaukee:

And this is the Pabst Bottling plant also in Milwaukee:

Great architecture but PBR is the worst beer I’ve ever tasted, except for sours I’ve ordered in ignorance.

Called in at The Brown Cow in Gateacre, a pub I like, but a range of drinks that could do with improvement. 4 lagers, a cider, Guinness and an IPA which I chose. It was a Salt Brewery Alpaca Lypse IPA, quite light and refreshing but served far too cold (at least for me). Could have done without the kids in the beer garden as well, being a grump I do not think pubs and kids are a good mix.

They`ve never had real ales on there, so I had to look this one up, as I`d never heard of it.

It`s a craft beer, the Salt Brewery have done a collaboration with Coors to produce, hence why it`s behind the bar at the Cow.
