Dizzy blonde in Golden Rule in the lakes. Lovely when it's well kept View attachment 301971
No doubt another characterful pub that will be 'modernised'. More generic crap no doubt. It'll be the Swan next.
The Echo are trying to find out who has bought it, at the moment - unknown.I’ve been going off and on for decades and it was the pub I had my first pint of real ale in - Wobbly Bob.
A real eclectic mix of customers, but the thing I’ve noticed the last few times I’ve been, is the lack of students and as such it’s been quiet.
Maybe it’s because the Pilgrim closed a while back, or student culture has changed and they don’t go to the likes of the Cracke anymore ?
Do you know if it’s privately owned or a pub Co ?
If it’s a pub Co, I fear the worst![]()
Rumours it's the owner of the Lion, he's recently sold the Newington Temple.I’ve been going off and on for decades and it was the pub I had my first pint of real ale in - Wobbly Bob.

Yep, that's my thought as well.Could be good news if true, the Lion is a proper decent boozer, with the emphasis on beer and real ale, rather than other drinks.
Bodes well if so, one of the most underrated in town for meRumours it's the owner of the Lion, he's recently sold the Newington Temple.

Your views and reviews of pubs and beers in Bristol have had me reminiscing of my student days back in the day (hell it was over 40 years ago!). It was noticeable then that real ale, and cider, was much more readily available in Bristol than back here in Liverpool. Even the 2 locals I frequented in the Redland & Clifton areas always had a decent real ale on tap. Happy days.Stopped in a couple of old haunts up in the heights, Highbury Vaults hasn't changed a mite, good solid pint of Youngs bitter and a quiet beer garden.
Then onto Zero Degrees, probably the city's first micro brewery and one of the city's best views over the Christmas Steps

Still doing an excellent black lager and a proper US style pale ale.

It was a great pub for many years, although (as I've said on here previously) it went a bit 'meh' as of late, with the landlady and staff being a bit apathetic.I’ve been going off and on for decades and it was the pub I had my first pint of real ale in - Wobbly Bob.
