Baxter gone

Hes not good enough.

Its alright giving youth a chance, but when the youth in question doesnt have the talent or the will to knuckle down and make a career, whats the point.

Maybe he should change his name to Victor Anichebe then, he's not good enough (gash i believe you called him) but became a useful homegrown member of a cash strapped team with a small squad.

But i'll give you Baxter, he has off field issues which are holding him back and i don't blame the club for letting him go.

Point still stands about every other player who comes through our youth set up that aren't even as good as Anichebe. Or they in fact are but don't get given the chance that he did. Either way our acadamy isn't producing players for Evertons first team (other than emergencies), its producing players for League one.

Freedman confirms Baxter talks
Palace manager interested in former Everton youngster

Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman has revealed he has had 'many meetings' with Jose Baxter, but says the former Everton striker has offers to consider from other clubs.
Baxter is a free agent after leaving the Toffees earlier in the summer and has been linked with a switch to Selhurst Park

Freedman has a lot of admiration for the player and admits talks have been held, but recognises that there would be a lot of competition for his signature.

"What's happened with Jose is he's a young guy that I've had many meetings with," said Freedman in This is Croydon.

"He's a fantastic young player, but he's got offers from other clubs."

If Freedman decides to pursue his interest there would appear to be a good chance of a deal being done, as Baxter has previously made it clear that he would welcome the chance to join Palace.

"For people asking I am not a everton player or crystal palace player...... But I'd love to be as they are a great team with great future," he wrote on Twitter on Monday.

Baxter, 20, came through the youth ranks at Goodison Park but never established himself as a regular starter under David Moyes and spent time out on loan at Tranmere last season.

There aren't many academies at Premiership level that produce more than a couple of first team players every few years. We had Rodwell make his full England debut this year and Barkley and Duffy both got a handful of appearances. Vellios and Gueye too, if they count. Our academy's doing fine.

Rodwell has been playing for 3 seasons now, and Gueye and Vellios don't really count because they were over 18 when they were brought in.

Talk that he has been coming to us for sometime. Maybe some talk about Clyne involved. Can't see why you wouldn't want Clyne given that he is absolute class and your lack of cover in that area. Unless Barcodes or Utd pitch up for him (linked with both and would pay him more) you should grab the chance with both hands. He would be a great signing and nothing, save him signing a new contract with us, would please me more.
Zaha is unproven and we want (allegedly) £7m all up front and a sell on clause. (Leave him with us for a bit......please.)

Southampton have just signed Clyne, so yeah.

I saw him play in Sydney and I could have told you he wasn't going to make it.

Gueye is the Way.

PALACE boss Dougie Freedman has revealed that he is currently holding talks with former Everton striker Jose Baxter about a move to Selhurst Park.

The 20-year-old, who was recently released by the Toffees, scored three goals in a 15-game loan spell at Tranmere Rovers last season and is now training with the Eagles.

On Monday Baxter wrote on his Twitter account: "For people asking I am not a everton player or crystal palace player...... But I'd love to be as they are a great team with great future."

And on Wednesday he tweeted: "Great session today. Legs are done in ha. Off for a little stroll in London town centre."

"What's happened with Jose is he's a young guy I've had many meetings with," said Freedman.

"He's a fantastic young player and he's got offers from other clubs – offers from Premier League clubs included – but I've sat down with him and explained the vision of the club and what I think he can get better at.

"Getting him in and over the line is another thing, but we probably need to sit down and talk finances.

"I've got a responsibility to stay within the budget, but I will be working hard to get it done, and there are other ways to get it done rather than just money."
