That poor that he still managed the achievement of being the first manager of our club to be earning more than the players
He insisted on it and thought it was right that the manager should be paid more than any of his players, mind you he always had a very high opinion of himself, still does even after utter failure the last four or five years. Give him his due he’s earned Brewsters whether he is good bad or indifferent. Definitely not my cup of tea, glad to see the back of him after eleven long years.

Its a tough class players in both teams

Toss of the coin and Total bias late 70,s era - so Lee it is

pick of players being Latchford , Thomas , Todd , Dobson , McKenzie , (still cant handle we sold and brought in Walsh) last but not least King - who gave me my first Street End Derby win !

I loved Mick Lyon's he was an absolute 100% er and like Dave Hickson would probably have died for us. But thinking back, like I have on numerous occasions about why we fell short so many times in the 70,s apart from Everton luck and dodgy refs. I think there where a lot better center half's out there than Mick.

Didn’t realise there were so many Moyes haters. If it wasn’t for him we would of been relegated easily. He over achieved on a paper thin squad and hardly any money ( makes Silva and Koemans spells look even worse) bloke did well give him less stick FFS

It's disingenuous to pretend that he didn't perform a couple of economic miracles during his time here, but then he made his bed by trying to big league us and getting sacked within a season.

I like to think of myself as more of a Moyes 'laugher' than 'hater.'

Both Gordon Lee and David Moyes went agonisingly close to winning trophies with Everton, but neither quite managed to pick up silverware. How would their teams have fared against each other?

I've picked a "best of Lee" side V a "best of Moyes" XI. The only stipulation is that any player chosen must have played a minimum of 20 games for Everton under the named manager.

Gordon Lee:

George Wood; John Gidman, Colin Todd, Ken McNaught Mike Pejic; Bryan Hamilton, Martin Dobson, Andy King; Dave Thomas, Bob Latchford, Duncan McKenzie

David Moyes:

Nigel Martyn; Seamus Coleman, Phil Jagielka, Joleon Lescott Leighton Baines; Mikael Arteta, Tim Cahill, Steven Pienaar; Wayne Rooney; Andy Johnson, Duncan Ferguson.

Who would you fancy?

Probably an age thing but Gordon's XI all day long.

:)

Moyes steadied the ship but his style of football wasn't great and I think he knew eventually he would have to build a new team in limited funds at the time. Part of me would have liked him to stay as at least we knew what we weee getting the other part was happy to see him go as he ultimately bottled every single big game.

As did most of his players unfortunately.

That's what singles the great managers out though innit. They win all the average games but they win most of the big games as well. That's what makes them great. They have a way of making the players believe that they're gonna go out and win the big ones.

A mate of mine went to Everton for a months trial, unfortunately he didn't make the grade but he brought me home Mick Lyons shirt. It eventually fell to pieces.

I don’t blame him for leaving to be honest, wanted to further his career and move to a bigger club with spending power
